At this accommodation and event property in Chittenango, Central New York, guests can stay in a Big Cat Bungalow beside a lion or tiger habitat, watching the animals through secure enclosure glass.
The experience is close-up wildlife observation—not direct contact. The animals are not loose in the rooms, and they may not be visible every time you look. The Haven also advertises luxury African safari tents overlooking a savanna-style area, making it a particularly unusual option for wildlife-minded travelers, couples, and event groups visiting the Syracuse area.
Where is The Haven of the Wild?
The Haven of the Wild is at 1875 New Boston Road, Chittenango, New York 13037, in Central New York near Syracuse. “Upstate New York” is a broadly accurate description, but this is not a Catskills, Adirondacks, or Hudson Valley destination.
The property was created by Jeff Taylor, founder of the associated Wild Animal Park. The Haven and the park are separate locations: The Haven’s address is on New Boston Road, while The Wild Animal Park’s main facility is listed at 7621 Lakeport Road in Chittenango.

What are the Big Cat Bungalows?
The Big Cat Bungalows are the property’s signature accommodation. Each places overnight guests beside a lion or tiger habitat, with the room separated from the enclosure by a substantial glass viewing barrier. In practical terms, the unusual amenity is the habitat itself: you may wake up and look directly toward a big cat’s enclosure rather than a conventional garden, pool, or city view.
The Haven’s promotional material describes the possibility of waking near lions or staying beside tigers. A 2024 local television report identified lions named Apollo, Amara, Anika, and Nia and tigers named Raja and Kane. Those names were reported at that time and should not be treated as a permanent current animal roster; residents and groupings can change.
Are the tigers inside the room?
No. The animals remain in their enclosures, and guests observe them from the accommodation side of the glass. The setup should not be confused with a petting experience, animal encounter, or room where guests can touch or feed a tiger.
The distinction matters for expectations and safety. The current lodging listing also cautions that the animals may not be visible at every moment because they can move around their enclosures and are not present solely for guest entertainment. A booking may put you beside a tiger habitat, but it cannot guarantee that a tiger will be resting at the glass when you arrive—or at any particular time during the night.

- Big Cat Bungalows: luxury lodging beside lion or tiger habitats, with viewing through the enclosure glass.
- Luxury African Safari Tents: glamping-style accommodations overlooking a savanna area where guests may see giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and other African wildlife.
The property’s event material advertises 12 glamping tents adjacent to the venue and describes an event facility of approximately 14,000 square feet. Those figures are promotional descriptions from The Haven, not an independently audited capacity report, and availability may vary by season, event schedule, and booking type.

Is this mainly a hotel, an event venue, or a wildlife attraction?
It is a combination of all three, although the exact availability of each offering should be confirmed before booking. The Haven markets itself for:
- weddings and receptions;
- corporate gatherings;
- concerts and private events;
- celebrations and group stays; and
- overnight wildlife-themed lodging.

- Confirm the Haven booking and determine whether it is at a bungalow or safari tent.
- Ask whether the rate includes zoo or safari admission.
- If tickets are not included, purchase or plan for park admission separately.

What should visitors realistically expect?
This is a wildlife-viewing stay, not a guaranteed animal performance. The animals can choose where to move and rest. Is The Haven of the Wild open and operating?
The larger concept was publicly discussed as a luxury resort and event expansion beginning in 2022. A 2023 local report said the project had previously been delayed while permits were pending, then moved forward after permits were obtained. By August 2024, local reporting said the Big Cat Bungalows were operating while parts of the broader Haven concept were still being developed.
The current official property material actively promotes the bungalows, safari tents, weddings, private events, and booking inquiries. The safest interpretation is that these are active advertised offerings, while proposed features such as a spa, treehouses, campground, water park, or additional animal-themed accommodations should not be presented as currently operating unless The Haven confirms them directly.

The Wild Animal Park states that it is licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and that its animal care and housing practices are subject to applicable regulations. That is the property’s stated regulatory position; it is not an independent assessment of every animal-welfare question.
Travelers who care about animal welfare may want to ask the property specific, practical questions before reserving:
- What physical barriers and guest-safety procedures protect the animals and visitors?
- Are guests ever allowed to feed, touch, or enter the big-cat habitats? The bungalow concept should not be understood to include such access.
- How are animal viewing, noise, lighting, and guest behavior managed?
- What happens if a habitat or bungalow is temporarily unavailable?
