Yes. Parks Canada permits fishing at Lake Louise, which is practical official evidence that fish occur there, but the sources reviewed do not provide a current lake-specific species list or population estimate. If you plan to fish, follow the current park rules: anglers need a national park fishing permit, an aquatic invasive species self-certification permit, and must release fish caught at Lake Louise.
Fishing permission does not tell you which species live in the lake or guarantee that you will see fish. Parks Canada’s regional species information and stocking history are useful context, not a confirmed inventory for Lake Louise.
What does the evidence establish?
Parks Canada places Lake Louise in Banff National Park’s Water Recreation Zone and lists fishing as an allowed activity there, subject to the applicable restrictions and permits. This supports a qualified yes to whether there are fish in the lake. The official material reviewed does not give a current Lake Louise-specific species inventory or abundance estimate.
A historical Lake Louise-area survey examined 31 lakes and ponds and reported that nearly all fish populations in its study area were introduced. That is historical, area-wide evidence; it does not establish Lake Louise’s present species composition, fish count, or stocking history.

What kind of fish are in Lake Louise?
The sources reviewed do not confirm a current species list for Lake Louise itself. Parks Canada’s fish-identification material discusses species found across Banff, Yoho, and Kootenay national parks, but a regional list should not be treated as a Lake Louise inventory.
Parks Canada describes a wider history of fish stocking in mountain parks, including stocking in Banff that stopped in 1988. This regional history does not establish which species are in Lake Louise now or whether any particular fish there is native.

Can you fish at Lake Louise?
Yes, fishing is permitted at Lake Louise when current restrictions allow it and you have the required permits. Parks Canada requires a national park fishing permit for angling in national parks; a provincial licence does not replace it. Lake Louise is in the Water Recreation Zone, where fishing is allowed with a valid aquatic invasive species self-certification permit. Check the current order and fishing rules before setting out, as restrictions can change.
Banff National Park requires catch and release except for lake trout at Lake Minnewanka. Lake Louise is not that exception, so release fish caught there at the place you caught them. Parks Canada recommends a single barbless hook, minimizing handling, keeping fish in the water, and gently removing hooks with needle-nosed pliers.

How can you help protect Lake Louise?
Parks Canada requires equipment to meet Clean, Drain, Dry conditions and calls for an aquatic invasive species self-certification permit or inspection. Its visitor guidance says to clean off mud, sand, plants, and animal material; drain gear before leaving the waterbody; and dry equipment for at least 48 hours if it was last used in Alberta, British Columbia, or the northern territories, or at least 30 days if last used elsewhere. Follow the current permit instructions and restrictions for your trip.
