The tribute’s reported placement around Norwich Terrier judging connected the real dog show to O’Hara’s role as Cookie Fleck in the 2000 comedy Best in Show.
What was reported about Westminster’s tribute
The Guardian reported that a video montage honoring O’Hara appeared on the Madison Square Garden jumbotron before Terrier Group judging. Elite Daily also reported that the montage appeared during Norwich Terrier judging and included clips from her work, including Best in Show. The research did not locate an official Westminster transcript or the full tribute video, so specific montage details should be treated as reporting rather than official copy.
How the tribute connected to Best in Show
In Christopher Guest’s 2000 mockumentary comedy, O’Hara played Cookie Fleck. Cookie and her husband, Gerry, prepare their Norwich Terrier, Winky, to compete in the fictional Mayflower Dog Show. The real Westminster competition and the movie’s dog show are separate events.
| Real Westminster competition | Fictional show in Best in Show |
|---|---|
| The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, held at Madison Square Garden in 2026 | The Mayflower Dog Show, where Cookie and Gerry Fleck enter Winky |
| Its official 2026 results name Penny, a Doberman Pinscher, Best in Show and Cota, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Reserve Best in Show. | Winky is a Norwich Terrier in the film’s story; the character and dog did not compete at Westminster. |
The film’s fictional competition uses dog-show culture as the setting for a comedy about the owners and their personalities. The tribute’s reported timing during Norwich Terrier judging made O’Hara’s role a recognizable connection to the real event, without making the film’s story part of Westminster’s competition.
