Is the support kangaroo video real? No. The clip showing a kangaroo apparently being stopped from boarding a plane was AI-generated; the airport confrontation did not happen. Lead Stories traced the video to an Instagram post from Infinite Unreality dated May 26, 2025, and Black Dot Research independently identified the same account as its earliest source. Lead Stories’ fact-check and Black Dot Research’s analysis both found the claim that it showed a real event to be false.
What happened in the viral video?
The footage presents an apparent argument at an airport gate: a kangaroo is treated as an emotional support animal, and staff seem to prevent it from boarding. But the scene was fabricated, not a record of an airline turning away a kangaroo or a passenger arguing with airport staff.
Lead Stories reported that the earliest version it found appeared on Instagram on May 26, 2025, on the account Infinite Unreality. The clip was reposted by DramaAlert on X the next day with the caption “Emotional support kangaroo rejected entry to plane.” Black Dot Research also traced the clip to Infinite Unreality and said later reposts used misleading captions; the original post did not present the video as authentic. Why did viewers believe the clip?
The video was framed like a real confrontation, and the repost caption invited viewers to read it as breaking news about an emotional support animal. PerthNow reported on May 30, 2025, that the clip had received 16.1 million views in four days and described viewers reacting sympathetically to the apparent scene. That is a contemporary figure reported by PerthNow, not an audited current view count. PerthNow’s report

What clues showed the kangaroo video was AI-generated?
Fact-checkers pointed to several flaws within this particular clip. Lead Stories noted that the boarding-pass text was garbled, the apparent speech did not sound like a recognizable language, the gate attendant’s name tag was blank, and a wedding band appeared on the passenger’s ring finger after being absent earlier. Black Dot Research also described the voices in early versions as muffled and distorted. Lead Stories’ observations · Black Dot Research’s analysis
Those inconsistencies support the fact-check, but no single visual oddity is a universal test for AI. More telling here was the provenance: Black Dot Research traced the clip to an account whose linked website described producing AI videos. The account’s origin, considered alongside the flaws in the footage, supports the conclusion that the scene was synthetic.

How can you check a viral animal video?
- Look for the earliest available post. Check who published the clip first and whether that account identifies its content as AI-generated or fictional.
- Separate the footage from the caption. A repost may add a claim that the original publisher never made.
- Seek independent corroboration. A dramatic event involving an airline or airport should not be treated as confirmed solely because a clip is widely shared.
- Treat visual artifacts as clues, not proof. Black Dot Research cautions that no perfect AI-identification tool exists; provenance and corroboration matter.
