In a May 1, 2025 report, ABC7/KGO said the heads—named Zeke and Angel—had shared the hatchling’s body for seven months. The report is a snapshot from 2025, not confirmation of the snake’s condition or whereabouts today.
What happened at East Bay Vivarium?
ABC7/KGO reported that the two-headed kingsnake hatched at the Berkeley reptile store and was seven months old at the time of its May 1, 2025 story. The store named the heads Zeke and Angel. The report described a fused spine and said both heads could influence the shared body, with Angel described as dominant. Those details were reported observations; the story did not publish a veterinary examination or medical record.

The news report compared the condition to conjoined twins and explained it as a single embryo that partially split during development. That is the explanation given in the report, not an independently documented diagnosis for this individual snake.
How rare is a two-headed snake?
ABC7/KGO called the occurrence “one in 100,000,” but its report did not identify a study, data set, or original source for that estimate. The number has also been repeated by secondary coverage, which points back to the same report rather than establishing an independent statistic. It should therefore be treated as an attributed figure, not a verified probability for snake hatchlings.
What was known about Zeke and Angel’s prospects?
In 2025, the store said it did not plan to sell the snake and estimated it might grow to around four feet. Owner Alex Blanchard said he expected the animal to have a typical kingsnake lifespan of 20 to 30 years. That was an expectation expressed at the time, not a veterinary prognosis or confirmation of how long this snake would live.
