A Great Dane and a Chihuahua with Guinness World Records height titles met at Reggie’s home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on April 4–5, 2025. The dogs, Reggie and Pearl, were nearly three feet apart in height according to Guinness measurements taken on different dates—not side by side at the meeting.
Who are Reggie and Pearl?
Reggie is a Great Dane owned by Sam Johnson Reiss. Guinness World Records describes him as an AKC-certified purebred; he was born in September 2017 and was the runt of his litter. Pearl is a Chihuahua cared for by the Semler family. Her owner, Vanesa Semler, says Pearl has a forceful personality: “She’s really demanding. She’s strong, and opinionated, and she can tell you what she wants.” Guinness World Records reports that Pearl was born in September 2020.
How tall were the dogs?
Guinness verified Reggie at 1.007 m (3 ft 3 in) on January 27, 2025, in Idaho Falls. It verified Pearl at 9.14 cm (3.59 in) on August 23, 2022, in Orlando. Guinness gives the difference between the measurements as about 91.56 cm, or roughly three feet.

These measurements were verified years apart, so they are not a simultaneous comparison. Guinness warns that records can change daily and that updates may not appear online immediately; the figures here are the measurements on its record pages. Reggie’s reported weight of 145 pounds in 2025 is not a Guinness record measurement.

What happened when they met?
Guinness organized the get-together for its 70th anniversary. Pearl and Semler traveled from Florida to Idaho so Reggie would not have to fly. Smithsonian Magazine’s Sarah Kuta reported: “The two superlative pups met in Idaho Falls at Reggie’s house on April 4 and 5.” Smithsonian Magazine also reported Reggie weighed 145 pounds and Pearl a little more than a pound in 2025.
According to Guinness’s account, the dogs sniffed and wagged their tails when introduced. Their owners described the meeting as gentle and friendly: Reggie flopped down to Pearl’s eye level, while Pearl ran around his legs. They explored Reggie’s home, spent time on the couch, played in the backyard and shared a meal. The owners also posed them for photographs that made their size difference unmistakable.

Reiss told Guinness, “Obviously, bringing the smallest dog in the world with the tallest dog in the world, there was a little bit of anxiety,” but the owners described a calm encounter. That is an account of these two dogs, not evidence that every large and small dog will get along; introductions should be managed for the animals involved.
