A ViralHog video listing describes a brown basilisk lizard running out of a children’s circle during a preschool reptile-day demonstration in Anderson, South Carolina. The listing says the handler chased and recaptured it. The clip is dated February 28, 2022, but the event details have not been independently confirmed by the sources available.
What happened during the demonstration?
ViralHog identifies the animal as a brown basilisk, also called a Jesus lizard, and says the incident took place on February 28, 2022. In the licensor’s account, the handler let the lizard loose; it ran through the children’s circle toward the parents, and the handler pursued it and caught it. ViralHog’s listing was made live on March 3, 2022, and includes an option to request a license for the footage.
A Dailymotion repost carries ViralHog attribution and repeats the same location, date, and description. It appears to be a copy of the same account, not independent reporting. No school or local news account confirming this specific event was located, so details beyond the listing should not be assumed.
Why did the lizard run on two legs?
Two-legged running is a known part of lizard locomotion, but that general fact does not explain the behavior of this particular animal. ABC News reported on research measuring lizards running on two legs, four legs, and shifting between the two; the report says researchers found that lizards can intentionally make those transitions. That research context does not establish what prompted the basilisk in the school clip to run as it did.
