Sugar and Spice are a bonded pair who must be adopted together. Their profile calls for a patient family with dog experience, a home without other pets, and children aged 14 or older. A home without shared walls is recommended because both dogs can be vocal. Their availability may have changed since the profile was published on October 3, 2026, so contact the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton and Halton at 905-845-1551 or visit hsomh.ca to ask about them.
What kind of home do Sugar and Spice need?
- Adopt them together: the profile describes them as bonded and says they must be adopted as a pair.
- No other pets: the shelter is seeking a home without other animals.
- Children aged 14 or older: this is the age guidance in the profile.
- A home without shared walls: recommended because both dogs can be vocal.
- Dog experience: an ideal adopter has general dog experience, including experience supporting dogs who are fearful, reactive or vocal.
What are Sugar and Spice like?
Oakville News describes Sugar and Spice as affectionate, food motivated and attached to their people. They are interested in toys, and Spice especially enjoys climbing into a lap for cuddles. Both dogs enjoy their crates, which the profile describes as a possible comforting safe space for downtime; it does not specify a preferred crate or say adopters need to buy one.
The profile says they may be nervous around new people, particularly men. When worried or overwhelmed, they may growl, become vocal or have difficulty managing their emotions. These are the observations in the adoption profile, not a diagnosis or a guarantee of how they will behave in every situation.
What support will they need?
Sugar and Spice are still building confidence. The profile says they are working on polite greetings, confidence around new people, handling and house training. It emphasizes positive reinforcement and patience, so their new family should be prepared to give them time and help them learn at a pace they can manage. An adopter who wants additional support could seek a qualified, reward-based trainer or behavior professional.
