How often can guinea pigs eat French beans?
Veterinary guidance lists green beans as an occasional treat, not a daily staple. The University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College includes them among occasional treats, and the Royal Veterinary College includes them in its list of foods to offer. Neither source establishes a precise green-bean portion or schedule, so there is no supported number of beans to give at one time or rule that they can be fed every day. Offer plain fresh beans as part of the vegetables your guinea pig eats, rather than treating them as a replacement for a balanced diet. What should a guinea pig eat every day?
Green beans belong in the context of a hay-centered diet. Merck describes an adult guinea pig’s diet as high-quality grass hay, species-formulated grass-based pellets, and produce, mainly vegetables such as leafy greens. Merck’s general daily guidance for adults is hay roughly equivalent to the animal’s body size, approximately 1–2 teaspoons of commercial guinea-pig pellets, and 1–2 cups of fresh produce. Those are whole-diet amounts—not a green-bean allowance—and the produce should be varied. Merck Veterinary Manual: Guinea Pigs.
Are French beans a good source of vitamin C?
Do not rely on green beans as your guinea pig’s vitamin C source. Guinea pigs cannot make vitamin C themselves and need it regularly from their diet. Merck gives a typical requirement of 10–25 mg/kg daily for adults and 30 mg/kg or more for growing, pregnant, lactating, or ill guinea pigs. It names red and green bell peppers, tomatoes, kale, parsley, beet greens, and spinach as produce high in ascorbic acid; green beans are not among those examples. VCA advises discussing an individual guinea pig’s vitamin C needs with a veterinarian. Merck does not recommend adding vitamin C to drinking water because it must be replaced frequently and may make the water less appealing, which could reduce intake. Should you serve the beans raw or cooked?
The cited veterinary guidance supports occasional green beans but does not specify whether they should be raw or cooked, whether their ends need trimming, or an exact piece count. It concerns ordinary green beans, not seasoned, canned, or prepared dishes; it does not establish those products as suitable. Stick to plain fresh beans and introduce them gradually.

When to contact a veterinarian
Talk with a veterinarian before making a substantial diet change, especially if your guinea pig is growing, pregnant, lactating, ill, or has a known dietary concern. If a new food is followed by a noticeable change in appetite or digestion, stop offering it and contact your veterinarian for advice.
