Hare Today is best understood as a source of raw ingredients and blends for people preparing a cat’s diet—not as a catalog of ready-to-serve, complete-and-balanced cat foods. Its broad selection of proteins and formats may suit experienced raw feeders, but a meat, bone, and organ blend is not automatically a complete diet. The right choice depends on the specific product and the full feeding plan, including any required recipe formulation and supplements.
What Hare Today sells
Hare Today’s catalog includes chicken, duck, rabbit, beef, and less common proteins in frozen, freeze-dried, ground or chopped, and whole-prey forms. Products may consist of muscle meat, organs, meaty bones, or combinations of those ingredients. That variety can help raw feeders rotate proteins, but the product format and ingredient list matter: a ground blend and a whole-prey item are not interchangeable nutritional guarantees.
The company’s product pages and Cats.com review describe these foods as ingredients for homemade feeding rather than complete-and-balanced cat diets. Cats.com also reports that Hare Today recommends taurine supplementation for cats and ferrets. That recommendation does not mean adding taurine alone completes every product or recipe; nutritional adequacy depends on the formulation as a whole.
What the product labels tell you
Hare Today’s listed compositions illustrate why readers should check each live product page and label rather than infer suitability from a product name or a general meat-bone-organ ratio.

| Product example | Listed ingredients and details | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Freeze-dried ground chicken/bones/organs | Chicken quarter, boneless breast, neck, heart, gizzard, and liver; the product page describes an approximate 80% meat, 10% bone, and 10% organ ratio. It provides hydration instructions and says to refrigerate after opening. | The page warns that poultry may contain Salmonella. The approximate ratio does not establish that the product alone or a feeding plan built around it is complete and balanced. |
| Ground duck/bones/organs | Duck meat, wings, liver, heart, gizzard, and neck; the product page describes an approximate 80% meat, 10% bone, and 10% organ ratio. | The page notes that duck is higher in fat than most poultry and warns that poultry may contain Salmonella. Confirm current ingredients and feeding directions on the live listing. |
Ingredients and product details can change. Before buying, read the current label and product directions, then assess the item as part of a recipe or feeding plan rather than treating the listed ratio as proof of nutritional completeness.
Nutrition: ingredient blend is not the same as a complete diet
A blend containing meat, bone, and organs can provide several useful components, but those categories alone do not show that the finished diet supplies every nutrient in the right amounts for a cat. Cats.com characterizes Hare Today’s products as ingredients for homemade food, not complete-and-balanced diets. The product page for one blend cannot establish the adequacy of another product or of a cat’s overall feeding plan.
If you use a Hare Today product, follow a recipe formulated for the exact ingredients and product type, including any specified supplement. Do not assume that a premix or a single added nutrient makes an arbitrary blend complete. The Feline Nutrition Foundation’s recipe resource says its raw-meat-with-bone premix must be intended for that purpose; it is not evidence that a particular Hare Today blend becomes complete simply by adding it. The Foundation also advises consulting a veterinarian before changing the diet of an ill cat and notes that its recipe may not suit cats with chronic kidney disease or other medical issues.

Raw food requires careful handling. The FDA says raw pet foods may carry pathogens and that refrigeration or freezing does not kill Salmonella or Listeria. A contaminated pet may shed pathogens without appearing sick, so safe storage, handwashing, cleaning, and preventing cross-contamination matter. Follow the product’s handling directions and the FDA’s raw-pet-food safety guidance.
The FDA’s notice, first issued January 23, 2019 and updated January 31, 2019, concerned one specific item: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow Ground Chicken/Bones/Organs, lot 12.04.2018. FDA samples from that lot tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes; the agency called the lot adulterated and advised consumers to discard it. This was a historical warning about that lot, not a blanket warning against every Hare Today product.

- Pâté - A deliciously smooth, and decadent texture.
- Rabbit is #1 Ingredient - Since the dawn of time, cats have loved their protein—so that’s why this dish is packed with delicious, lean chunks of the good stuff: lean protein that’s low in cholesterol!
- Hydration Boost - Your cat gets the benefit of an extra serving of moisture to ensure they’re getting enough H20 (without even knowing it!) every day.
- Grain-Free - Absolutely no corn, wheat, rice, soy, or oats in sight. We don’t pack your pet’s food with grains just to help us save a buck or two.
The FDA also said the Salmonella isolated from the sick kitten described in the notice did not match the strain found in the product sample, and that the specific product eaten by the kitten was unavailable for testing. Those details are important context when interpreting the incident; they do not remove the handling risks associated with raw food generally.
Sourcing, processing, and what the review actually tested
Cats.com reports that Hare Today raises some rabbits and beef and performs grinding, cutting, and packaging on site, while sourcing other proteins through inspected suppliers and local farms. These are the reviewer’s reported descriptions of company practices, not an independent audit of every supplier, ingredient, or production batch.
The Cats.com review, updated February 17, 2026, says its reviewer independently bought several packages and tried freeze-dried turkey, duck, and alpaca with her cats. She describes the food as finely ground and easy to rehydrate, and reports that her cats liked it. This is one reviewer’s experience; individual cats may respond differently, and preference does not establish safety, nutritional completeness, or health outcomes.

Stock and delivery terms can affect whether a product is practical for your feeding routine. Hare Today’s homepage carried a rabbit supply notice dated March 4, 2026, describing seasonal supply constraints and sourcing-dependent availability. It said inventory is generally added around 4–4:30 p.m. Eastern on processing Thursdays when processing is possible. Check the current notice and product listing for stock rather than relying on that timing as a guarantee.
Frozen foods also involve shipping and order constraints. Cats.com’s 2026 review reported a 10-pound minimum for frozen items and described shipping methods and days, but those terms may change. Check the current checkout information for minimums, fees, delivery days, and whether frozen items can be shipped to your address.

The same review reported prices around $1.95 per ounce for freeze-dried chicken, $2.50 per ounce for freeze-dried rabbit, and $0.56 per ounce for ground duck. These are dated figures reported by Cats.com in 2026, not current quotes. They also do not establish comparable cost per calorie across the catalog; total cost depends on the product, shipping, and the rest of the diet.
Who may find Hare Today useful?
- Potentially a fit: experienced raw feeders who want a wide choice of animal proteins and are prepared to evaluate ingredients, follow an appropriate recipe, handle raw food safely, and manage frozen shipping or storage.
- Use caution: anyone seeking a ready-to-feed complete diet should verify that the specific item is labeled and formulated as complete and balanced for the intended use. The products described in the Cats.com review are sold as homemade-food ingredients, so do not presume completeness.
- Seek veterinary advice first: owners of cats with health conditions, or anyone unsure how a raw recipe fits a cat’s nutritional needs, should discuss the diet with a veterinarian before making a change.
When comparing Hare Today with other feeding options, look at the actual ingredients and format, whether the specific food is complete or requires recipe formulation, pathogen handling and storage, local availability, and total cost including frozen shipping. Current, comparable calorie-per-ounce figures for all products are not established in the cited material.
