- Choose the exact formula and check its directions. Confirm the intended life stage, meat guidance, mixing ratio and any other preparation instructions on the product label or product page.
- Weigh the powder and meat accurately. Raw Meow says weighing the powder is more accurate than relying on an indicative scoop. A kitchen scale can help avoid measuring variation.
- Add water and mix as directed. Do not assume the powder is a complete food before it has been combined with the prescribed ingredients.
- Handle and store the prepared food as raw food. Follow the maker’s storage instructions, keep it separate from human food and clean utensils and surfaces that contact it.

Its published dry-matter analysis is for the powder alone, not the finished meal after meat and water are added. Raw Meow says its ingredients are Australian; check the specific variant’s page and label rather than assuming every formula is identical.
How to prepare the freeze-dried complete meals
The freeze-dried complete meals are a different product from the Mix completer. Raw Meow instructs customers to rehydrate the meal powder before serving. Follow the product’s directions for water and serving rather than applying the Mix recipe to it. The company identifies ingredients and a typical analysis on its product page and says the food ingredients are locally sourced Australian produce; these are manufacturer statements, not independently verified sourcing or analysis findings.

Are Raw Meow’s products complete and balanced?
Raw Meow says its adult chicken-liver Mix is formulated to meet AAFCO Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for adult maintenance when added to muscle meats at the correct rate and as directed. It says the freeze-dried complete meals are formulated to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles for all life stages. These are formulation claims by the maker, conditional on correct preparation. They should not be mistaken for an independent certification, a feeding-trial result or proof that every user-prepared batch has the same nutrient profile.
AAFCO profile language also does not make the two formats equivalent. The Mix depends on the specified meat and preparation; the freeze-dried line is described as a complete meal and has its own rehydration directions. Match the exact product’s life-stage statement to your cat, and ask your veterinarian for guidance if your cat has a medical condition, is growing, pregnant or nursing, or needs a therapeutic diet.

Raw-food safety: the main trade-off
The nutritional claim is only one part of the decision. Both formats involve uncooked animal-source ingredients, and preparation can expose cats and people in the household to pathogens. The American Veterinary Medical Association states that “the AVMA discourages feeding any raw or undercooked animal-sourced proteins (e.g., meat, poultry, fish, egg, milk*) to dogs and cats because of their risk to human and animal health.” This is general veterinary guidance about raw feeding, not a finding that Raw Meow products are contaminated.
The FDA describes a study conducted from October 2010 through July 2012. In its second year, 15 of 196 commercially available raw dog and cat food samples tested positive for Salmonella, and 32 of 196 tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. These figures concern the sampled raw pet foods generally; the FDA page does not identify Raw Meow as a tested brand. They are not a product-specific contamination rate or a prediction about an individual package.

The FDA’s H5N1 update says cats are particularly sensitive and urges consumers to carefully consider the risks before feeding uncooked meat or uncooked pet food. It describes investigations indicating foodborne transmission to cats, most often through unpasteurized milk or uncooked meats. The update does not link Raw Meow to H5N1.
Reduce exposure if you choose to feed raw
The FDA advises washing hands, cleaning surfaces that contact raw food, keeping raw food separate from other food, and refrigerating or safely discarding leftovers. Follow the product’s own storage instructions as well. Households with people or pets at elevated risk from infection should discuss raw feeding with a veterinarian and consider the public-health guidance before deciding.
