Dr. Marty Nature’s Feast is a freeze-dried raw cat food sold in multiple recipes. Its ingredients, calorie content and guaranteed analysis differ by formula, so there is no single nutrition profile for the range. The label information available for two recipes shows high crude-protein minimums, but those figures alone do not establish that a formula is complete and balanced or nutritionally superior. The most important checks are the exact recipe’s current nutritional adequacy statement, its fit for your cat’s life stage, and whether your household is comfortable handling raw food.
What is Dr. Marty Nature’s Feast?
Nature’s Feast is a line of freeze-dried raw cat foods sold by Dr. Marty Pets. The manufacturer says the food can be served dry or prepared with water. Those are product and serving claims from the seller, not independent findings. Because the range includes different recipes, use the name and label for the exact bag you are considering rather than treating the formulas as interchangeable.
The manufacturer’s product pages list a chicken formula, a poultry, beef and salmon formula, and a fish-and-poultry product page. The latter includes salmon, turkey, whitefish and poultry organs, but its figures should not be used to describe the other recipes. [Fish-and-poultry product page]
What is in the recipes, and how do their labels compare?
The manufacturer lists animal ingredients alongside plant ingredients in both formulas below. Their calorie figures and guaranteed analyses differ substantially; check the current package because product-page details can change.
| Recipe | Manufacturer-listed ingredients | Guaranteed analysis and energy |
|---|---|---|
| Chicken formula | Chicken, chicken heart, chicken liver, chicken gizzard, turkey liver, turkey heart, egg, sweet potato, sunflower seed, spinach, pumpkin seed, cranberry, blueberry, apple, carrots, ginger, dried kelp, broccoli, kale, salt and mixed tocopherols. | Crude protein: minimum 50%; crude fat: maximum 25%; crude fiber: maximum 1%; moisture: maximum 6%. Calculated energy: 4,610 kcal/kg and 175 kcal/cup. [Manufacturer product details] |
| Poultry, beef and salmon | Turkey, beef, salmon, duck, beef liver, turkey liver, turkey heart, flaxseed, sweet potato, egg, pea protein, apple, blueberry, carrot, cranberry, pumpkin seed, spinach, dried kelp, ginger, salt, sunflower seed, broccoli, kale and mixed tocopherols. | Crude protein: minimum 37%; crude fat: maximum 27%; crude fiber: maximum 4%; moisture: maximum 6%; vitamin A: minimum 50,000 IU/kg; omega-3 fatty acids: minimum 2.5%. Do the nutrition figures show that it is complete and balanced?
Not by themselves. A guaranteed analysis reports specified minimums and maximums on an as-fed basis; it is not a full nutrient profile or an independent laboratory result. In particular, a high crude-protein minimum does not prove that one recipe is better balanced than another.

Look on the current package for its nutritional adequacy statement. The FDA says this is where to determine whether a food is intended to be “complete and balanced” as a sole diet. A claim must be supported by meeting an AAFCO nutrient profile or by an AAFCO-procedure feeding trial. The available product information does not establish the current wording for every Nature’s Feast recipe, so do not assume all formulas have the same life-stage suitability. [FDA: “Complete and Balanced” Pet Food]
Compare moisture-adjusted values
When comparing a low-moisture freeze-dried food with a wetter food, compare nutrient levels on a dry-matter basis rather than relying on the as-fed percentages. The FDA explains that moisture differences can distort direct guaranteed-analysis comparisons. This conversion makes the comparison more useful, but it still does not replace the adequacy statement or a full nutrient profile.
Check calories and portions
The two listed recipes also differ in calculated energy per cup, so portions should come from the directions for the exact formula and be adjusted with your veterinarian as appropriate for your cat. Do not transfer a cup measure or feeding amount from one recipe to another. If your cat has a medical condition or eats a prescribed diet, ask your veterinarian before changing foods; the product information does not establish that Nature’s Feast treats or prevents disease.

What should cat owners know about raw-food safety?
Freeze-drying does not remove the need to consider raw-food handling. The FDA says raw pet food is more likely than processed pet food to contain pathogens such as Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, and identifies not feeding a raw diet as the single best way to prevent infection from those bacteria. This is general raw-food guidance, not a finding that Nature’s Feast itself tested positive.
In an FDA study spanning October 2010 through July 2012, 15 of 196 raw pet-food samples tested positive for Salmonella and 32 of 196 tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Those historical results cover sampled raw pet foods, not this brand or current lots. FDA veterinarian and study principal investigator Renate Reimschuessel said that “quite a large percentage of the raw foods for pets we tested were positive for the pathogen Listeria monocytogenes,” referring to those study samples. If you choose a raw food, follow the package’s handling directions and FDA advice: wash your hands carefully and clean utensils and surfaces after handling the food or anything contaminated by it. The FDA’s guidance covers raw pet food generally, not a product-specific test of Nature’s Feast. [FDA raw-pet-food guidance]
How should you decide whether to buy it?
- Match the exact formula to your cat. Review its ingredient list, current adequacy statement and stated life stage instead of relying on the range name.
- Use the package’s calorie and feeding information. Recipe energy differs, so do not assume identical portions across formulas.
- Consider raw-food handling for your household. Follow safe-handling guidance, or choose a non-raw food if the risks are not acceptable to you.
- Compare the full feeding cost. Check the current package size, portions and price rather than comparing sticker prices alone; the available figures do not establish a current cost per day.
What is known about reviews, recalls and guarantees?
Cat Food Advisor gives the Nature’s Feast range five stars and reports no recall history at the time of its review. That is the reviewer’s conclusion, not a guarantee of current recall status, product safety or nutritional adequacy. No independent laboratory testing of these recipes is established here. [Cat Food Advisor review]
The manufacturer product page advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee. Treat that as a seller-stated term and confirm the current conditions on the product page and package before relying on it. Prices and availability can also change; verify them with the seller or retailer when purchasing.
