What kinds of startups is Leap looking for?
Leap describes its target as seed-stage startups with some traction and in-market learnings. For investment-seat applicants, its FAQ says founders should be able to explain the company’s value, what makes it distinctive, and evidence of market demand. It also names a strong team with relevant experience and a shared vision as important criteria. The FAQ does not publish a complete Cohort 11 application checklist or detailed geographic restrictions.
Cohort 11 areas of emphasis
Leap highlights four focus areas for this cohort:
- Feline care
- Senior pets and healthy aging
- Dental health
- Allergy and dermatological care
These are emphasis areas rather than stated exclusive eligibility categories. Leap frames the broader goal as supporting science-backed approaches that improve pet healthspan and wellness. On its official LinkedIn page, Rachel Sheppard, Director of Ventures at Mars Petcare, said: “We’re especially looking for startups using science-backed approaches to extend pet healthspan and improve quality of life.”

Investment Seat or Impact Seat?
Leap describes two participation routes. The right one to explore depends on the organization’s structure and mission, whether it is seeking venture capital, and whether it is prepared to exchange equity.
| Route | What Leap says | What is not specified publicly |
|---|---|---|
| Investment Seat | Selected companies receive a $200,000 investment. Equity varies by stage and business type, according to Leap’s FAQ. | The FAQ does not give a fixed equity percentage. |
| Impact Seat | Leap describes a place for nonprofit or mission-driven organizations to take part in the full program without an equity investment. | The public material does not establish the complete Cohort 11-specific eligibility rules or terms. |
Leap’s FAQ is the source for the seat descriptions and investment terms. Applicants should not assume that the Impact Seat’s general description settles whether a particular organization qualifies for Cohort 11.
