Start with how your Husky tries to get out
Huskies vary in how they test a boundary. One may push at a gate, another may climb, squeeze through a gap, or dig beneath a fence. Inspect every boundary and connection
For outdoor containment, evaluate the sides, top, and bottom as a continuous barrier. AKC facility criteria call for sturdy, maintained fencing and say a fully secure exercise area should prevent escape across all three boundaries. - Gate and latch: Check that the gate closes fully, latches reliably, and does not leave a gap at the bottom or sides. Consider whether your dog can reach or manipulate the latch.
- Panel joins and fasteners: Look for gaps, loose connectors, and joints that flex when pushed. Secure every connection according to the kennel’s instructions.
- Mesh and lower edge: Check for openings the dog could squeeze through and for fabric that is loose or pulling away from its frame. PetSafe warns that loose chain-link fabric can allow a pet to escape or become trapped; it instructs owners to stretch the fabric tightly and secure it. - Top and ground perimeter: Decide whether your dog’s behavior calls for overhead coverage or a barrier against digging. Inspect the edges where the kennel meets the ground and where a roof meets the sides.

Your Husky should be able to sit, stand, and turn around comfortably. For an outdoor run, also account for room to move and for the dog’s physical size, including its tail. Measure the yard area and plan the gate swing and human access before buying. Check the ground and anchoring requirements for the chosen kennel, and confirm local and state rules before installation. Check materials, installation, and upkeep
Inspect the kennel before and after assembly for sharp edges, damaged parts, loose mesh, weak joints, and rust or corrosion.
