After months of restrictions and a veterinarian’s clearance, Opal could chew again—and foster caregiver Brianna ultimately adopted her. The account frames Duke as wanting Opal to stay, though that interpretation of a dog’s feelings is part of the story, not something the article independently verifies.
How Opal and Duke first met
IHeartDogs identifies Brianna as Opal’s foster caregiver and Duke as the dog already in her home. Its account describes Opal as a small Pit Bull puppy with a traumatic jaw injury. She wore a muzzle, and her jaw had been wired shut.
Because Opal was fragile, Brianna initially kept her apart from Duke. The article says Duke lingered by the gate between them and that both dogs cried. Those details come from IHeartDogs’s retelling; it does not name a location or rescue organization.
The dogs’ introduction was gradual and supervised
After three days, Brianna allowed Duke and Opal to spend time together under supervision. According to the article, they snuggled, but Brianna did not let them roughhouse. The distinction matters: the story describes affectionate contact while Opal was still recovering, not unrestricted play.

Opal’s recovery took five months
The IHeartDogs account says Opal remained under restrictions for five months. It reports that a veterinarian then cleared her, after which the wire was removed. The article does not provide veterinary records or further medical details, so it does not establish the specific injury mechanism, treatment plan, or prognosis.
Her first chewing milestone came after clearance
After the reported veterinary clearance, Brianna took Opal to a pet store. IHeartDogs says Opal picked out toys and chewed for the first time. The account does not identify any toy or brand; its timeline places the chewing milestone after clearance, not during jaw treatment or restricted recovery.

Brianna made the adoption permanent
The story ends with Brianna adopting Opal. IHeartDogs presents Duke’s closeness to the puppy as a sign that he wanted her to stay. That is the narrative’s emotional framing; what the account reports directly is that the dogs snuggled during supervised visits and that Brianna ultimately adopted Opal.
