As she grew, her golden, dense coat changed—and a retelling of the story described her as a Golden Retriever–Husky cross. But the account does not report a DNA test or explain how that mix was identified.
How Phoebe came home
In a November 2, 2023 story, iHeartDogs says a man found Phoebe as a puppy crying in the street, brought her home, and raised her. The article credits Wingo via a YouTube video and Honest To Paws as sources for the story. Read the iHeartDogs account.
Why the story says Phoebe was “not a mutt”
The iHeartDogs retelling says Phoebe’s coat became golden and dense as she grew, and describes her as a Golden Retriever–Husky cross. That is the article’s breed description, not a documented genetic finding: it gives no DNA result or named method for identifying her ancestry. Her changing appearance prompted curiosity about her mix, but the account does not establish that testing settled the question.
An iHeartDogs version dated October 30, 2025 repeats Phoebe’s name and the Golden Retriever–Husky description, but the page was not independently available to verify beyond its search-result text. It corroborates the retelling’s wording, rather than providing separate confirmation. See the 2025 iHeartDogs version.

The point is the rescue, not the label
“Mutt” is often used casually for a mixed-breed dog; it does not make a dog less deserving of a home. Phoebe’s story is presented as a small rescue turning into a family bond, with her changing coat adding a question mark to her background. Whatever her ancestry, the account’s emotional center is the care she received—not a breed label.
