Its automatic packing and sealing can reduce how much of the waste you handle and smell day to day. The available evidence does not show that a home will be odor-free, and the independent reviewer we relied on reported mixed results on size and noise.
Who should not use automatic cleaning
Furbulous’s FAQ states that cats under 3 pounds or under six months old should not use automatic-clean mode. The company says such cats may not reliably activate the safety system, and it tells owners to use manual cleaning until the cat is large enough for the sensors to respond. If you have a kitten or a small adult cat, treat this as a hard limit rather than a suggestion. Confirm your cat’s weight before you plan around the automatic features.
How the automatic packing works
The Box cycles its globe and uses a filter to separate clumps from litter that can be reused. Collected waste is packed and sealed in the drawer, and according to the product page a new bag feeds in after packed waste is removed. Furbulous describes a seven-sensor “Lifeguard System,” an anti-pinch structure, and automatic pausing when a cat approaches or jumps onto the device. These are manufacturer claims. Independent testing of these safety features in the field is limited to the single review discussed below.

Odor: what the mechanism does and does not establish
The odor strategy is containment. Instead of leaving waste in an open drawer, the Box packs and seals it, and Furbulous also describes a deodorant system. Sealing waste is a plausible way to reduce smell at the point of collection, but odor depends on more than the mechanism. Litter type, how often you clean the globe, how much your cat produces, and how many cats share the box all matter.
The clearest hands-on evidence comes from Katelynn Sobus, a reviewer at Cats.com, who tested the unit for a couple of months in a multi-cat household. According to that review, the auto-packing worked well and kept odors contained during the test period. The reviewer scored odor control 3.5 out of 5. That is one household’s experience over a limited period, not a controlled measurement, and it should not be read as a guarantee for your home.

Cats.com published its review with a last-updated date of 2026-02-14. Its ratings are the publisher’s editorial scores, not an objective standard, and the reviewer also consulted Amazon customer reviews. The ratings are below.

Observations that favored the Box
- The reviewer liked the auto-packing function.
- Disassembly was straightforward.
- When the unit was running properly, Sobus wrote: “When the litter box is running properly, it’s very quiet.”
Observations that counted against it
- The reviewer found the tray small.
- Pouring litter through the entrance was awkward.
- An initial loud noise frightened the reviewer’s cats.
- A false “cat nearby” pause occurred; it improved after a reset.
- The reviewer’s cats did not use the unit much, and the reviewer considered the size and technical concerns significant.
The quiet-operation quote and the loud-start problem come from the same review. Read them together: the Box may run quietly once it is working, but the initial loud operation and reset requirement are documented in that review.

Fit: entrance, tray, and cat size
Manufacturer specifications and the reviewer’s observations do not fully agree on how large a cat the Box suits. The reviewed article says Furbulous states the product works for cats up to 22 pounds. The current official product page, by contrast, says there is no maximum weight and emphasizes a 60L globe. The reviewer still found the tray comparatively small and said larger cats might not use it comfortably.
Because globe volume does not tell you how much space a cat has to turn and step in, measure your cat and compare the 8.27 by 9.25 inch entrance and the usable tray space against your cat’s body length and build. A cat that is large enough to set off the sensors but too big for a small tray may avoid the box entirely, which the reviewer’s own cats appeared to do.

Litter, bags, and running cost
The Box requires clumping litter. Furbulous’s FAQ recommends good-quality clumping litter and gives tofu and clay litters as examples. Non-clumping litter is outside the manufacturer’s guidance for this machine.
Automatic packing requires the Furbulous trash bag box. The FAQ describes one continuous 197-inch roll cut into single bags. Each bag holds up to 17 packings at 6L each. Furbulous estimates the roll lasts 90 days for one cat; these are manufacturer estimates and will vary with actual use. The FAQ does not state a bag price in the material we reviewed, so check the product listing for current pricing and availability. The bag requirement is the single largest factor in long-term running cost, and it ties you to one supplier.

Routine maintenance
- Wipe the inside of the globe every two weeks.
- Clean the entire unit about once a month.
- Disassemble the globe, filter screen, and litter bed for washing as the product page describes.
- Never submerge the electrical base; the FAQ warns against it.
Cleaning burden is the main ongoing task after the bag refill. Plan for both the scheduled wipes and the monthly full clean, and remember that the base contains electrical components.
The app
Furbulous says its app controls cleaning and packing and tracks cat weight and habits. Its FAQ notes the system may not distinguish cats with very similar weights, which matters if you share the box between cats. The App Store listing for the Furbulous app shows user reports of notification overload and account or login friction. These are individual reports, not evidence of how often owners encounter these problems. Check recent ratings before you rely on the app for monitoring.
Is it worth buying for your situation?
- Likely a fit: a healthy adult cat above the minimum weight, a household that uses clumping litter, and an owner who values packed and sealed waste over the cost of proprietary bags.
- Likely a poor fit: kittens or cats under 3 pounds, very large cats, households that need a generous tray, and owners who want low-cost or third-party refills.
- Uncertain: multi-cat homes. The manufacturer suggests one box per two to three cats, and the reviewer’s multi-cat test covered only a couple of months.
For comparison with another automatic litter box, compare usable interior and entrance fit, the safety sensor design and minimum cat size, waste storage and disposal, odor evidence, litter compatibility, app reliability, cleaning burden, bag or deodorant cost, purchase price, and warranty. We have not tested a competing product here, so this article does not make a head-to-head claim.
