Petlibro describes the Scout in its FAQ as “a wired indoor camera with flexible setup options.” The phrase is the manufacturer’s own; the flexibility it refers to is mainly mounting, covered below.

Pet recognition and AI activity features
Petlibro says the Scout can recognize up to five cats and dogs and label videos by pet. Its FAQ names eating, drinking, cat litter-box use, general movement and pet selfies among the activities it detects. These are manufacturer descriptions. Petlibro itself warns that visually similar pets may be harder to tell apart and that behavior detection may not be perfect, and no independent accuracy measurements for these features were available to this review.
The same AI layer powers activity tracking and highlight reels, and these are the features that require a subscription. Without one, the camera works as a live-view and two-way audio device with pan-and-tilt control, which is how WIRED’s reviewer described it (see the section on independent review).

Subscription cost and cloud storage
This is the most important buying consideration. Petlibro’s product page states that AI activity tracking, highlight reels and video cloud storage require a subscription, and that each camera needs its own Video Cloud AI subscription. Because the Scout has no SD-card storage, recorded clips are only available through the cloud plan.

The two starting prices conflict, and plan prices can change by region and over time. Check the live plan on Petlibro’s checkout page before budgeting, and confirm the price in your country. If you run several cameras, multiply the monthly plan cost by the number of units.

Setup, placement and limits
Scout is designed for indoor use on a flat surface or a wall. The box includes an L-shaped wall mount, a mounting plate, an adhesive mount, screws and anchors, the power cord and adapter, a quick-start guide and a user manual, so you do not need separate mounting hardware for a standard installation.
Several limits matter for placement:
- It is corded, so plan a location near a power outlet.
- It is not waterproof and is not intended for outdoor use.
- Petlibro says it does not support human or package detection and is not meant for door security.
- Wi-Fi support covers both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, which helps if your router separates the two bands.
Sharing access and privacy
Petlibro says you can invite up to five friends or family members to view the livestream and access captured videos, pictures and recaps. Invited users cannot control pan-and-tilt or two-way audio, so only the account owner controls the camera’s movement and talk function.

Petlibro’s product page says the company uses encrypted data transmission and storage, strict access controls and regular security audits, and that it complies with data protection laws including the PSTI Act and SB327. WIRED’s review, titled “Petlibro Scout Smart Camera: Filled With Both Features and Kinks,” reported that its reviewer found setup easy and that the camera connected on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Who the Scout suits
The Scout fits an owner who wants a wired indoor camera with pan-and-tilt to check on a cat or dog, speak to the pet, and receive pet-labeled activity summaries, and who accepts a monthly plan per camera for those summaries. It is a weaker fit if you need local storage without a subscription, outdoor coverage, human or package detection, or a door-security camera. If the AI features are the reason you are buying, price the subscription before you buy the hardware.
