The ASPCA’s November 3, 2025 feature for Adopt a Senior Pet Month profiles five older animals from the tri-state area, four cats and one dog, and describes each one’s temperament and favorite activities. The feature is almost a year old as of this writing, so the profiles tell you who these animals were when they were written, not who is available today. Before you act on any of them, check each linked profile for current status.
The five senior pets in the ASPCA feature
Each profile below reflects how the ASPCA described the animal in its November 2025 article. These are descriptions written by the shelter, not guarantees of how an animal will behave in your home. Senior animals often adjust slowly to a new environment, so treat the notes as a starting point for conversation with the shelter.
Lyle
The ASPCA describes Lyle as quiet and friendly and says he was affectionate in his previous home. He also has a playful side that comes out when he sees a wand toy. If you are considering him, a wand-style toy is a natural way to see that playful side for yourself during a visit.
Nocturne
Nocturne, according to the feature, likes being the center of attention, especially with head scratches and petting. Her profile is linked from the article, so you can read her full description there.

Suzie Q
Suzie Q is described as gentle. The article says she enjoys long walks, walks well on a leash, and checks in with her person along the way. It also notes that she likes treats. Her walking description is the only one in the feature that points to a dog, which matches the feature’s count of one dog among the five.
Liam
Liam is described as a people-lover who adores affection. He enjoys chasing a string toy but is also content to lounge, so his profile suggests a cat who can be playful in short bursts and relaxed the rest of the time.

Choosing your next step
The feature does not rank the five animals against each other, and it does not compare outcomes for adoption versus fostering. It does lay out three routes, and which one fits depends on whether you live near the tri-state area and whether you are ready to adopt. The article’s own framing is “If you aren’t ready to adopt right now” and “If you don’t live near the tri-state area.”

Adopting one of the five
If you want to adopt, start with the profile for the animal that interests you. The feature’s profiles are the ASPCA’s published descriptions, so the most reliable source for adoption status is the shelter itself. Ask about the animal’s health history and whether any medication, dental work, or mobility needs are noted, since senior animals often have these. Bring questions about routine, such as how Lyle’s play interest or Mister’s nap schedule would fit a household that is out during the day.
Fostering as a bridge
For people not ready to adopt, the ASPCA suggests fostering. The article’s own sentence on the subject reads: “Fostering helps senior animals like these get a break from the shelter and blossom in a home.” The statement is the ASPCA’s organizational wording; the page does not name an individual author.

Checking whether a profiled pet is still available
- Open the linked profile from the November 3, 2025 article and read the status shown there.
- If the profile does not show an adoption status, contact the shelter directly and ask for the animal by name.
- If the animal has been adopted, ask the shelter whether it has similar senior animals in care that match the same temperament.
- Do not assume that a profile described in 2025 still reflects the animal’s current health, weight, or behavior; ask for an updated description.
