Its Best Friends profile describes a registered 501(c)(3) that offers trap-neuter-return (TNR), low-cost spaying and neutering, food banks, adoptions, and sanctuary care for senior, medical-needs, and special-needs cats. The profile does not publish service hours, eligibility rules, intake capacity, current donation needs, or outcome totals, so those details need to be confirmed directly with the group before you plan a visit, donation, or trapping project.
What the organization is and where it operates
For the Love of a Feral is listed on Best Friends Animal Society’s partner pages as a local member of the Best Friends Network, which is a directory of independent animal-welfare groups that work with Best Friends. Its listed location is Factoryville, Pennsylvania, with the ZIP code 18419-1909. The group’s profile identifies it as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. You can read the full profile at bestfriends.org/partners/love-feral.
Network membership means the group appears in Best Friends’ directory. It does not mean Best Friends runs the local program, staffs its clinics, or guarantees its services. Treat the profile as an introduction and the group itself as the authority on what it currently does.
Services listed on the profile
The profile lists five areas of work. They cover prevention, practical support, placement, and long-term care, and they are not limited to feral cats:
#1 Best Overall
- HUMANE CAPTURE: This large live animal trap safely captures raccoons, cats, possums, and other small animals with a 1-door design that allows full entry before closing, reducing escape chances for effective pest control
- HEAVY-DUTY CONSTRUCTION: Built with galvanized wire mesh and solid steel door, this raccoon trap resists rust and corrosion while providing long-lasting durability for outdoor use in all weather conditions
- SAFETY FIRST: Features smooth internal edges to prevent animal injuries and protective handle guards for safe handling, making this humane animal trap ideal for both novice and experienced users in wildlife management
- PROFESSIONAL DESIGN: Engineered with a refined trip mechanism specifically calibrated for heavier animals like bobcats and coyotes, this live trap minimizes false triggers while ensuring reliable capture performance
- VERSATILE SOLUTION: Perfect as a feral cat trap, skunk trap, or armadillo trap, this large animal cage trap handles a wide range of pest control situations effectively for comprehensive wildlife management
- Trap-neuter-return (TNR) for community cats, which is the humane management approach described in the next section.
- Low-cost spaying and neutering, which reduces the number of kittens born into outdoor colonies and the number of cats in shelters.
- Food banks to help people caring for cats who are short on food.
- Adoptions for cats who can be placed in homes.
- Sanctuary care for senior cats and for cats with medical or special needs who need long-term housing.
Because the adoption and sanctuary work is listed alongside TNR, the group should not be assumed to be a feral-only program. Ask which of these services apply to your situation before assuming a particular kind of help is available.
How TNR works, according to Best Friends
Best Friends describes trap-neuter-return (TNR), and the variant TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccinate-return), as a community-cat management method. Best Friends’ guidance states: “Trap-neuter-return (TNR) is the most humane, effective way to help reduce the number of community cats who live on our streets.” The quote comes from Best Friends Animal Society’s official TNR guidance, which does not name an individual author. The underlying process has four steps:

- High Quality Materials:SZHLUX Live Animal Cage Trap use low carbon steel wire and medium frequency welding. In this way, the product surface is flat, the welding is firm, and it is not easy to solder off.Weather and rust resistant.
- Convenient Design: Our cat trap is foldable and can be easily loaded into the trunk of the car.It only takes 4 simple steps to set up,from nearly flat to assembled in seconds--no tools needed.
- Humane Live Animal Trap: Our raccoon trap use oblong support frame to secure the cage shape and use fixing clips to fix rear door, smoothed internal edges protect and prevent trapped animal being injured. All you need is some bait to catch and then release them back to the wild.
- User-friendly Design: The top cover guard board of the cage prevents people injured by the trapped animal's mistake. The connecting rod of the pedal mechanism is set inside the cage to prevent animals from touching the mechanism by mistake.A new tool has been designed to extend the safe distance when releasing the animal.
- Dimensions: Product Size: 32inch*10inch*12inch; Package Size: 38.2inch*11.8inch*3.15inch.Excellent choice when attempting to capture smaller animals such as stray cats, raccoons, squirrel, skunk, mole, groundhog, armadillo, rabbit and small dogs.
- Get equipment and local guidance first. Ask local shelters, rescue groups, or veterinary providers whether a humane trap can be borrowed. Best Friends notes that these groups may lend traps and may point you to low-cost spay/neuter clinics. Owning a trap is not required for everyone.
- Set the trap with weather and safety in mind. Best Friends advises against trapping in rain or during hot daytime conditions unless the animal is adequately protected. After setting the trap, cover it to help calm the cat.
- Have the cat vaccinated and sterilized by a veterinarian. TNR depends on veterinary care, so the cat’s sterilization and vaccination should be arranged through a clinic, not handled at home.
- Return the cat outdoors. The cat goes back to the location where it was trapped, which is the “return” part of the method.

Trap dividers: a safety tool, not a universal requirement
The Best Friends Community Cat Programs Handbook, Chapter 25 (February 2026 edition), describes trap dividers, also called trap forks or separators. These tools limit how far a cat can move inside a trap, which can make handling safer. The handbook warns that a divider’s tines must be long enough to do the job and says a divider should not be used vertically, because a cat may push past it. The handbook names TruCatch and Tomahawk Live Trap as suppliers of compatible dividers. Naming a supplier is not an endorsement by For the Love of a Feral, and most trapping does not require a divider. The handbook is at the Community Cat Programs Handbook PDF.

Terms you may see
TNR stands for trap-neuter-return. TNVR adds a vaccination step and is the wording Best Friends uses in its humane-trap guide. Both terms refer to the same basic method, and local programs may use either.
Before you contact the group
- Confirm the group’s current contact method, service hours, and eligibility directly, since the profile does not list them.
- Describe the situation clearly: how many cats, whether they are already sterilized, and whether they are reachable for trapping.
- Ask whether a trap can be borrowed and whether a clinic appointment is needed for sterilization and vaccination.
- Ask what supplies or donations are most useful before you buy anything.
- For urgent injuries or illness in a cat, contact a veterinarian or emergency clinic first rather than waiting for a community program to respond.
Best Friends’ network directory is at bestfriends.org/volunteer/protecting-community-cats/caring-for-cats for general community-cat care guidance.
Also check with a local shelter, rescue group, or municipal animal-control office for TNR rules in your area, since local ordinances on feeding and trapping vary.
