Dasuquin is a joint-health supplement from Nutramax that is sold in cat-specific forms. Its standard sprinkle capsule and its Advanced sprinkle capsule contain different formulas and follow different dosing schedules, so the label of the exact product you buy determines how much to give. The manufacturer’s materials do not give a comprehensive side-effect profile, so the safest starting point for any cat is a conversation with your veterinarian.
What Dasuquin is meant to support
Nutramax lists Dasuquin under joint health for cats and describes its cat products as supporting joint comfort. The manufacturer’s stated rationale is that avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) work together with glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. The manufacturer’s FAQ states that this combination works better than glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone. That is Nutramax’s own claim. The materials reviewed for this article do not include an independent cat-specific study, effect size, or clinical outcome, so readers should treat the benefit as the manufacturer’s position rather than an established result.
Ingredients in the standard sprinkle capsule
The standard Dasuquin Sprinkle Capsules for Cats combine five ingredients:
- Glucosamine hydrochloride
- Chondroitin sulfate
- Avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU)
- Boswellia serrata extract
- Decaffeinated green tea extract

- Confirm that you have the standard Dasuquin Sprinkle Capsules for Cats and not the Advanced formula, and weigh your cat to choose the correct column in the table above.
- Open the capsule and empty the powder.
- Mix the powder into your cat’s food.
- If your cat eats dry food, the manufacturer’s Advanced product page suggests moistening the dry food or mixing the powder into a small amount of moist food. This helps make sure your cat eats the full dose.
- Watch that the food is finished. A partly eaten meal means the cat may not have received the full amount.
Advanced sprinkle capsule: a different formula and schedule
Nutramax describes Dasuquin Advanced Sprinkle Capsules for Cats as available exclusively from a veterinarian. Its core ingredients are the same as the standard formula, with manganese added. Because the formulas differ, the directions differ too. The product page also states that the capsules may be given once or twice daily, depending on the cat’s feeding schedule.

Side effects and safety
The manufacturer product pages describe the ingredients and directions, but they do not give a comprehensive list of adverse effects in cats, and they do not provide an adverse-event rate. That gap means you cannot assume a supplement is free of side effects, and you cannot assume a particular reaction is common or rare. Ask your veterinarian about the following before starting:
- Whether Dasuquin is appropriate for your cat’s age, health, and any existing medical conditions
- Whether it could interact with other medicines your cat takes, including prescription drugs and other supplements
- Which product, form, and schedule suit your cat
If your cat seems unwell after you start the supplement, contact your veterinarian promptly. Do not change the dose on your own based on an article, a product page, or a guess about what the cat needs.
