American school director Dan Owen and his son Cooper died on October 15, 2025, after a swarm of stinging insects attacked them during a zipline excursion at Green Jungle Park outside Luang Prabang, Laos. A hospital physician told the Associated Press that each suffered more than 100 stings and severe anaphylactic shock. According to the Associated Press, Dan Owen and his son Cooper were descending from a tree at the end of a zipline at Green Jungle Park outside Luang Prabang when stinging insects attacked them. Emergency-room physician Jorvue Yianouchongteng told AP that both had suffered more than 100 stings across their bodies and severe anaphylactic shock. He said Cooper was unconscious and died about half an hour after arriving at the provincial hospital. Owen was conscious and died about three hours after arrival.
