Australia Zoo is in Beerwah on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. For a smooth visit, choose admission and transport in advance, pick a few priority shows or animals, and check the live schedule before you leave. The zoo currently lists daily hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Christmas Day; some animals go to bed at 4:30 p.m., so plan those habitats earlier.

Where is Australia Zoo, and when is it open?

Australia Zoo is on Steve Irwin Way in Beerwah, Queensland. The zoo describes the drive from Brisbane as about 60 minutes via the Bruce Highway. Its visitor information, checked October 4, 2026, lists opening hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and closure on Christmas Day. Hours can change, so confirm your visit date on the official FAQ.

The zoo’s day-planning page notes that some animals go to bed at 4:30 p.m. This is not a closing time for the whole zoo, but it does mean that a late arrival may miss some habitats. Check the current schedule and suggested routes before setting priorities.

How much is entry, and what does a ticket include?

Australia Zoo lists single tickets, family passes and annual passes. Its ticket page, checked October 4, 2026, displayed the following single-ticket prices with the Wildlife Hospital Sneak Peek included:

Ticket type Displayed price Eligibility or note
Adult A$77.45 Single ticket with the Sneak Peek
Child A$51.95 Ages 3–14; children under 3 are listed as free
Concession or pensioner A$67.45 Single ticket with the Sneak Peek

The live checkout also displayed ticket versions without the Sneak Peek for A$2 less. These are changeable prices, not a guaranteed quote: check the current total and eligibility in the ticket checkout before paying.

The zoo says admission includes conservation shows, a free shuttle or bus tour, access to the splash park and children’s play areas. Confirm the selected ticket’s current inclusions when booking. Australia Zoo describes the Wildlife Hospital Sneak Peek as a two-dollar inclusion, with proceeds supporting the hospital. It provides a view into a purpose-built area where veterinary staff treat sick, injured and orphaned wildlife; the proceeds statement is the zoo’s own description.

Which ticket should you choose?

  • Single tickets: A straightforward choice for a one-time visit. Check each member’s age and concession eligibility against the current ticket terms.
  • Family pass: Compare the live family-pass total with individual tickets for your group; pass terms and prices may change.
  • Annual pass: Worth comparing if you expect to return. Review the current validity and conditions rather than assuming they match a single-day ticket.

How do you get to Australia Zoo?

By car

The zoo describes the drive from Brisbane as approximately 60 minutes via the Bruce Highway. Travel time depends on traffic and your starting point; check your route and allow time for parking and entry.

By train and courtesy coach

Queensland Rail Citytrain runs seven days between the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Beerwah, according to the zoo’s transport guidance. Australia Zoo says its courtesy coach meets most trains at Beerwah station. Not every train is necessarily met, so check the train timetable and coach details before setting out. For service updates, use Translink and the zoo’s getting-here information.

When comparing driving with public transport, check the full journey in both directions, including the coach connection and return departure. A guided transfer is another option to investigate, but confirm its departure point, schedule, cost and time at the zoo directly with the provider.

How should you plan a full day or half day?

Choose a few must-see animals or shows first, then build the rest of the visit around their locations and times. The zoo posts a live schedule and suggested routes for a full day, half day and Australian-animal-focused visit. Schedules are changeable; check the day-planning page close to your visit.

Full-day visit

A schedule checked October 4, 2026 listed a 9:30 a.m. bird-garden feed out, 10 a.m. tortoises, 11 a.m. tigers, 11:30 a.m. reptiles and an Africa keeper talk, noon elephants, a 1:15 p.m. Wildlife Warriors show, 3 p.m. birds of prey and echidna feed out, and 3:30 p.m. otters. Treat these as examples of the posted schedule, not fixed daily showtimes. Select the events that matter most to your group and allow time to travel between areas, eat, refill water and take breaks.

Half-day visit

Use the zoo’s shorter suggested route and choose only the highest-priority animals or shows. A half day is not a realistic promise to cover the entire property: the zoo describes its grounds as over 110 acres, and its map shows exhibits and services spread across the site. Use the current online visitor map to check locations, accessible routes and the shuttle route. The available PDF map is dated September 2024, so look for the online version for current planning.

The map also marks the Crocoseum, Wildlife Hospital, education spaces, food and shopping locations. If the hospital or splash park is important to your group, account for it when choosing how much ground to cover.

Are animal encounters included in admission?

No. Australia Zoo requires valid zoo admission for an encounter, and zoo entry is not included in the encounter booking. The zoo lists experiences involving animals such as koalas, wombats, lemurs, red pandas, meerkats, quokkas, otters, dingoes, echidnas, rhinos, Komodo dragons, cassowaries, tortoises and giraffes. Availability and terms vary by experience; check the selected encounter page before booking.

Depending on the experience, conditions can include minimum ages or heights, required clothing and shoes, participant limits, weather-related cancellations, and rescheduling or refunds. Check each rule for the specific encounter rather than assuming one experience’s requirements apply to another.

  • A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen; the zoo notes that Queensland sun can be strong even in winter.
  • A rain poncho or jacket, since weather can be unpredictable.
  • Water and a refillable bottle. The zoo says fountains around the grounds can be used to refill bottles.
  • Comfortable clothes and sensible walking shoes.
  • A jumper for cooler afternoons and a camera if you want one.
  • Swimmers and a towel if you plan to use the Laughing Frog Water Park.

Visitors may bring their own food and snacks. The zoo also lists cafés, kiosks and beverage stands; use the map to locate food around the grounds.

Where can you stay near the zoo?

For an overnight visit, the zoo FAQ identifies The Crocodile Hunter Lodge, 0.4 km from the entrance. The FAQ describes a package that includes zoo entry, breakfast, dining credit, a Wildlife Hospital Sneak Peek and a shuttle. Package terms and availability can change, so confirm the current inclusions, dates and price directly before booking.

What does the zoo say about its conservation work?

Australia Zoo says that visits support wildlife conservation. Its retail information names projects involving crocodiles, tigers, rhinos, elephants and cheetahs, while Wildlife Warriors describes its projects as supported through funding, education, research and field work. These are organizational statements, not independent assessments of measurable conservation impact. For project details, see Wildlife Warriors’ project overview and the zoo’s retail information.

The zoo also says proceeds from the two-dollar Wildlife Hospital Sneak Peek support its hospital. That is an optional way to include a hospital visit in your day; refer to the ticket terms for whether it is included in the admission option you select.
