Jackie and Shadow’s 2026 season brought two eaglets: the first began hatching around April 4, followed shortly by the second. The chicks, later named Sandy and Luna, both fledged on June 29. Jackie died on August 10, after the eaglets had left the nest.
When did Jackie and Shadow’s 2026 eaglets hatch?
The first eaglet began emerging at about 9:33 p.m. on April 4, 2026, while the Friends of Big Bear Valley cameras were streaming, NBC Los Angeles reported (NBC Los Angeles). Big Bear’s 2026 nest log records the first hatch on April 4 and the second shortly afterward (Big Bear Lake tourism nest log).
The hatch followed a difficult start to the season. The nest log records eggs laid on January 23 and January 26, with the first clutch lost in early February. Jackie laid a new egg on February 24 and another on February 27; those eggs produced the two eaglets.
What were the eaglets’ names?
Friends of Big Bear Valley invited the public to help name the two eaglets. They were ultimately named Sandy and Luna. The organization announced the naming contest and its result through its official updates (Friends of Big Bear Valley).
