What is Boxiecat Deep Clean?
Deep Clean is Boxiecat’s core probiotic clumping clay litter. The manufacturer describes it as unscented bentonite clay that forms clumps on top of the litter, and says it can be used in standard, sifting, and automatic litter boxes. It is sold in 16 lb, 28 lb, and 40 lb bags. Boxiecat’s Deep Clean product page says a 16 lb bag lasts approximately one month for one cat and advertises 40-day odor control; these are company claims, not guaranteed results for every home.
The same page says the litter “keeps litter fresher for 2x longer than other litters.” It does not provide a comparison method or identify an independent publisher behind that comparison, so treat it as unverified marketing rather than an established head-to-head result.
What does independent testing say?
Cats.com reports that it purchased three Boxiecat varieties and tested them over multiple weeks on several cats. Its review describes good odor control, very little dust while pouring and scooping, and clumps that formed on top. It awarded Boxiecat 4.1/5 overall and 3.5/5 for price per pound. The scores and observations come from that review, originally published around 2022; they are useful context, not a population-level study or a test of every current formula. The tested varieties were called Gently Scented, Extra Strength Unscented, and Premium Unscented. Those historical names should not be assumed to match all current Boxiecat products or formulations. The available sources do not establish an independent, direct comparison of today’s Deep Clean, Bot, and Glo Attract.

What should you weigh before buying?
- Odor: Deep Clean’s 40-day control claim comes from the manufacturer. Cats.com observed good odor control during its own multiweek tests, but neither statement guarantees the same result in every litter box or household.
- Dust and tracking: Cats.com described very little dust while pouring and scooping its tested varieties. That is a bounded observation, not proof that current Deep Clean is dust-free or will not track.
- Clumps: The review reported flat-top clumps; Boxiecat says Deep Clean clumps on top. Your experience will also depend on how much litter is used and how promptly the box is cleaned.
- Bag size and value: Choose among 16 lb, 28 lb, and 40 lb bags based on storage, lifting, and how frequently you want to replenish. The approximately one-month estimate applies to the manufacturer’s 16 lb/one-cat claim, not a guaranteed usage rate. Cats.com’s 3.5/5 price-per-pound score is its review category rating, not a current price quote.
- Scent preference: Deep Clean is unscented. Cats.com’s historical review also included a Gently Scented formula, but that name should not be read as a current formula comparison.
- Automatic box: Boxiecat says Deep Clean is suitable for automatic boxes, while Bot is specifically marketed for them. The cited independent review does not establish which performs better in a particular machine.
Is Boxiecat suitable for kittens?
Boxiecat recommends introducing kittens to clumping clay litter after 12 weeks of age. Its Deep Clean product page suggests plant-based or crystal formulas before then. Follow your veterinarian’s advice if your kitten has a special health or ingestion risk.

Verdict
Deep Clean is a reasonable option to consider if you want unscented clumping clay and value the manufacturer’s probiotic odor-control approach. The best independent evidence available here is Cats.com’s favorable but limited testing of three varieties around 2022; it does not verify Deep Clean’s current performance or the company’s 40-day and “2x longer” claims. Choose Bot if an automatic-box-focused formula is your priority, or Glo Attract if you specifically want its attractant feature, keeping their manufacturer claims distinct from independent findings.
