Was the snake a gopher snake?
Gray News reported that KSAZ identified the snake as a gopher snake. That identification is second-hand: the reviewed sources do not document an expert examination or confirmation by a wildlife agency. It is most accurate to say the snake was reported as a gopher snake, not that its species was independently confirmed.
Do not use the video to judge whether an unfamiliar snake is safe to approach. The story is notable because Rodriguez handled the animal in formal wedding clothes while guests watched, not because it demonstrates a safe way to remove a snake.
