Cats can have a tiny taste of jicama’s peeled, plain white flesh, but it is optional—not a nutritious or necessary part of a cat’s diet. Keep the peel, seeds, leaves, stems, and other non-flesh parts away from your cat. If your cat ate any of them, call your veterinarian for advice.
Which parts of jicama are safe for cats?
Veterinarian-reviewed pet-care sources distinguish the white root flesh from the rest of the plant. Catster describes the flesh as non-toxic to cats and warns that the skin, leaves, and seeds contain rotenone; Hepper describes the root as free of rotenone and cautions against stems, leaves, and seeds. Because the sources do not identify exactly the same parts, the practical rule is to offer only peeled flesh and keep every other part out of reach. The available guidance does not establish the exact risk or a toxic dose for cats.

For a cat that has eaten peel, seeds, leaves, stems, or an uncertain part, contact a veterinarian and explain what was eaten, approximately how much, and when. Do not assume an exposure is harmless based on a guessed amount.
Is jicama healthy for cats?
No. Jicama is not a complete cat food and should not replace your cat’s regular nutritionally complete diet. It is not needed to provide hydration or fiber, and the reviewed sources do not demonstrate feline health benefits such as improved digestion or dental health.

How to offer a tiny taste
If you choose to let your cat try jicama, prepare a small piece of plain white flesh. There is no established evidence-based serving size or frequency for cats; treat it as an occasional taste, not a regular snack or supplement.

What to do if your cat eats a non-flesh part
Call your veterinarian if your cat eats the peel, seeds, leaves, stems, or a part you cannot identify. Share the amount you think was eaten and the time of exposure. For poisoning concerns, ASPCA Poison Control advises contacting a local veterinarian or its 24-hour poison hotline. Its plant database also cautions that eating any plant material may cause vomiting or gastrointestinal upset in dogs and cats; this general warning is not a jicama-specific toxicity determination.
