Healthy cats can have a small amount of plain, fully cooked egg as an occasional treat, but egg cups are not a complete meal and no cited source establishes a tested egg-cup recipe or serving size. Keep the recipe free of seasoning and rich additions, and count any treat within your cat’s daily allowance.
Can cats eat egg cups?
An egg cup made only with fully cooked, plain egg may be offered as an occasional extra to a healthy cat. It should not replace complete and balanced cat food. ASPCA includes eggs among animal-origin foods and cautions against giving pets raw eggs: ASPCA Cat Nutrition Tips.
The sources support these general safety principles, not a tested egg-cup recipe. They do not establish exact proportions, cooking time, oven temperature, yield, calories, storage life, or a number of cups per cat. The simple preparation below is a cautious recipe proposal, not a veterinarian-tested formula.
A simple plain-egg cup proposal

- Prepare the egg without salt, butter, oil, milk, cheese, onion, garlic, chives, or other seasoning.
- Cook it fully before offering any to your cat. Do not serve raw or partly cooked egg.
- Let it cool, then offer only a small piece as a treat. Do not assume one whole cup is an appropriate serving; the right amount depends on your cat’s calorie needs and the recipe’s calories.
No precise bake time or temperature can be given from the available guidance. Use a preparation method that reliably cooks the egg through, rather than treating a particular cup shape or recipe as validated.

How much egg can a cat have?
There is no established egg-specific serving rule. Treat guidance differs slightly between sources: ASPCA recommends that treats make up 5% or less of a cat’s daily food intake, while the WSAVA Nutrition Committee and VCA use a maximum of 10% of daily calories. To take the more conservative approach, keep treats at or below the ASPCA’s 5% figure; either way, most intake should come from complete and balanced food.

These percentages use different wording and are not an egg-cup count. Without your cat’s calorie needs and the recipe’s calorie content, a fixed number of cups cannot be calculated reliably.

What must not go into the recipe?
Keep the egg plain. The WSAVA guide identifies onion-family ingredients as toxic, and the FDA lists garlic, onions, salt, and fatty foods among potentially dangerous items for pets. Ask your veterinary team before introducing egg cups if your cat has a medical condition, food sensitivity, or veterinary-prescribed diet. WSAVA and VCA advise individualized care for cats with health conditions or special diets. Homemade extras may not fit every cat’s needs, even when the ingredient itself is plain.

ASPCA’s April 4, 2007 statement about homemade diets concerns meals intended to provide a complete diet, not occasional egg treats. It says that achieving nutritional balance in homemade diets requires substantial work and veterinary-team guidance; it is not evidence that a plain egg treat is a complete food.
