Capital Humane Society (CHS) in Lincoln, Nebraska, was nearly out of cat-cage space in a report dated October 2, 2026: KLKN-TV said five cat cages remained available across its two locations, and 40 cats and kittens were ready for adoption at the Admissions and Assessment Center. Those are point-in-time figures, not a live capacity count. CHS was asking people to adopt or foster; check with the shelter for current availability and arrangements before visiting.

KLKN-TV reported that both CHS locations had five available cat cages remaining and that the shelter needed adopters and foster homes as soon as possible. The report also said 40 cats and kittens were ready for adoption at the Admissions and Assessment Center. The 40 animals were reported at the Admissions and Assessment Center, not as a combined listing across both locations. Contact CHS to confirm where a particular cat is now.
Adoption or fostering: which option fits?
