Yes—Carson Steele’s pet alligator Crocky-J is documented in UCLA’s 2023 football media guide, before Steele’s NFL career. Steele is now listed with the Philadelphia Eagles, whose player profile also names Crocky-J and says the alligator lives at the Steele family’s home in Indiana. Is Carson Steele’s pet alligator real?
Yes. UCLA’s official 2023 football media guide listed Steele as owning a pet alligator named Crocky-J. The Eagles’ player profile also names the alligator. The story therefore predates the NFL attention it received during Steele’s time with Kansas City.
The Eagles profile says Steele received Crocky-J as a Christmas gift in second grade. It describes the alligator as about five feet long and around 100 pounds, and says it lives at the family’s home in Indiana. Those size and residence details are not dated in the profile, so they are best attributed to the team rather than presented as independently verified current measurements or observations.
Who is Carson Steele?
Steele is a running back who joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Kansas City in 2024. The Eagles’ January 13, 2026 announcement says he spent the 2025 season on the Chiefs’ practice squad before Philadelphia signed him to a reserve/future contract.

How the story reached NFL fans
The alligator story was already in UCLA’s 2023 media guide, before Steele entered the NFL. It became more widely associated with him during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024. In January 2026, the Eagles announced his signing to a reserve/future contract, and their profile carried the Crocky-J biography into his Philadelphia chapter.

In a Kansas City Star report published January 14, 2026, reporter Pete Grathoff recounted Steele’s remarks ahead of Super Bowl LIX: “He’s not going to be able to get walks this weekend because everyone is coming out to the game,” Steele said. “But he should be good. We’ll keep him fed.” Those remarks were made in the Super Bowl context; they are not a new interview about the Eagles move.
What is confirmed—and what is not
The strongest available sources establish that Crocky-J was part of Steele’s story before the NFL and that the Eagles’ biography names the alligator and describes an Indiana family-home residence. That profile’s description is undated, however, and does not independently verify Crocky-J’s present condition or provide a current measurement.
