Rex Specs V2 and Doggles publish useful product details, but the available information does not establish an independent test winner or show that every dog needs eyewear.
Does your dog need goggles?
Dog goggles can shield eyes from sunlight, wind and debris during activities where exposure is a concern. Whether a dog needs them depends on the individual dog and situation; product descriptions alone cannot establish a medical need or promise prevention or treatment of an eye condition. If your dog has eye symptoms or a diagnosed condition such as pannus, ask a veterinarian whether eyewear is appropriate.

How to choose dog goggles
Start with measurements and fit
Measure the individual dog rather than choosing by breed. A secure fit should suit both the area where the goggles sit and the muzzle; a size chart for one brand does not apply automatically to another. For Rex Specs V2, the manufacturer asks owners to measure head circumference where the goggles sit, typically about an inch behind the eyes, and muzzle circumference around the back of the mouth. Check the UV claim and lens visibility
Look for an explicit UVA/UVB or UV400 specification rather than assuming a tinted lens provides UV protection. Rex Specs says all V2 lenses, including clear, are UV400 and block 99.9% of UVA/UVB; these are the manufacturer’s specifications, not independent measurements presented here. Doggles advises checking for a label stating 99–100% UVA/UVB protection and says its own marking is “UV absorption up to 400 nm.” Rex Specs V2 product details Doggles instructions
Lens darkness affects how much visible light reaches the eye, so consider conditions and visibility as well as UV claims. Rex Specs published these visible light transmission (VLT) figures in 2018: its lens guidance lists Clear at 92%, Smoke and Red Mirror at 20%, Blue Mirror at 15%, and Silver Mirror at 13%. These are manufacturer-published values, not independent measurements.

Match construction to the activity
Consider whether the design’s impact-resistance claim, lens replacement, strap adjustment, padding, ventilation and water drainage suit how the goggles will be used. Rex Specs describes its V2 as having impact-resistant interchangeable lenses, adjustable straps, foam edging, a spherical lens, ventilation and water drainage. Those feature descriptions do not prove performance in every condition. Rex Specs describes Small-Wide as an option for some short-nosed, broad-faced dogs, including French Bulldogs and Boston Terriers. The manufacturer notes that the dog still needs a nose about one inch long; breed alone does not confirm fit. The product page says V2 includes one clear and one smoke lens and a microfiber storage bag.
Impact-test wording needs care
Rex Specs’ 2018 lens guidance says its size-Large goggles passed an impact test certified by Chesapeake Testing Inc., but that page contains an apparent inconsistency: the quoted sentence names “ANSI Z78.1 2010,” while the surrounding article refers to ANSI Z87.1–2010. The claim is limited to size Large and should not be generalized to every size or treated as a settled standard without clarification. Rex Specs lens guidance

Doggles: what the manufacturer says
Doggles’ instructions emphasize checking the UV-protection label, describe wind and debris protection, and outline a two-strap fit. The manufacturer also recommends allowing a short adjustment period. Introduce the eyewear in stages and stop if your dog is distressed. Rex Specs recommends starting with the frame without a lens, then adding the clear lens, and later trying a tinted lens. If lens options and replaceability matter, compare the model’s stated lens choices and compatibility. If UV protection is the priority, verify the specific product’s labeling and claims. No independent comparison here establishes one brand as best overall.
