The Cumrige M5 is an open-top, self-cleaning litter box whose listed specifications, app features and sensor setup are published by the manufacturer. Independent test results for it are not available, so whether it works well for your cat, your litter and your home is something you will have to judge against the listed specs and the owner feedback below. This review separates what Cumrige claims from what has been verified, and gives you a checklist to run before you buy.
What Cumrige specifies for the M5
The figures below come from Cumrige’s M5 product page, accessed in 2026. They are manufacturer statements, not results from a third-party test.

Will it fit your cat?
The listed 2.6–33 lb range describes the cats the manufacturer says the box accommodates. It does not tell you how much room a cat has to turn around inside. An individual reviewer posted on the M5 product page that a 17 lb cat barely fits. That is one owner’s experience, not a measured limit, but it is the most direct fit feedback available for this model.
Before ordering, check the following:
- Measure your cat. Take a length from nose to the base of the tail while the cat is stretched out, and compare it with the 21.65 in length and 20.47 in width of the unit.
- Weigh the cat. If your cat is near or above 17 lb, treat the fit feedback as a warning and ask the seller about interior clearance before buying.
- Check the entry opening. The material reviewed did not give a separate entry-height or entry-width figure. Ask the seller for one, and compare it with how your cat steps in.
- Watch a few visits. Confirm your cat uses the box comfortably in an ordinary sitting or digging position, since that is where a tight fit shows up.
Litter compatibility
Cumrige lists bentonite, mineral and mixed litter as compatible with the M5. It states that tofu and crystal litter are unsuitable. These are category-level statements. The manufacturer does not claim that every product within a category performs equally well, so if you use a particular brand, test it for a few days and check whether clumps are being moved and removed as the box cycles.

If you are shopping for litter, look for clumping bentonite or mineral litter that your cat already accepts. Changing litter type at the same time as introducing an automatic box makes it harder to tell whether a problem comes from the box or the litter.
App, Wi-Fi and sensors
Cumrige lists control through the Tuya Smart App over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The 2.4 GHz requirement matters because many home routers broadcast a 5 GHz band with the same network name. If setup fails, confirm that the phone is on the 2.4 GHz network the box is meant to join, and check that the network name and password are typed correctly.
The box is described as using four weight sensors and three infrared detectors. Cumrige says these support its safety pausing and monitoring features. These are product claims. The material reviewed does not include independent testing of how reliably the sensors detect a cat, how they handle a cat that stays inside, or whether the app reports events accurately.

One owner report on Cumrige’s general product page says Wi-Fi setup did not succeed for that buyer. That is an individual report and does not show how common setup problems are.
Cats per household and time between emptying
Cumrige’s page describes support for two to three cats, up to ten days without emptying, quiet operation, odor control and safety pausing. These are promotional claims. The evidence gathered does not verify them. Time between emptying will depend on how many cats use the box, how often they use it, and what litter you choose. Do not treat ten days as a guarantee for your household.

- Fit and cleanup on the M5 page: a reviewer said a 17 lb cat barely fits and that urine and litter stuck to the side wall and liner.
- Cleaning and setup on the general product page: a reviewer said the unit was not moving clumps back into the bed and that Wi-Fi setup was unsuccessful.
These reports do not establish how common the problems are, or whether they come from setup, litter choice, a model variation or a defect. They are worth weighing because they describe the failure points most likely to matter to a cat owner: fit, wall soiling and whether clumps are actually handled.
Upkeep: bin, liners and pads
The sealed 10.5 L waste bin and the 16.5 × 16.33 in drum set how often you will need to empty and clean. The bin’s actual fill time depends on your cat’s habits and your litter. Expect to clean the liner and wall areas more often than the bin itself, given the owner feedback about waste sticking to the wall.

Price, warranty and returns
When the manufacturer’s page was retrieved in 2026, it showed $189.99, marked down from $229.99. Prices change often, and a markdown is not a stable price. Check the live price on the seller’s page before you buy.
The manufacturer material reviewed does not state the warranty length or return terms. Ask the seller, and read the policy at checkout, before you commit. A retail listing for an open-top Cumrige litter box appears on Target, but that listing does not confirm the M5 model, so verify the exact model number on whatever page you buy from.

- Confirm the exact model is the open-top M5 and not a different Cumrige unit.
- Measure your cat and compare with the 21.65 × 20.47 in footprint; ask for entry dimensions.
- Confirm your home has a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and your phone can join it.
- Choose a bentonite, mineral or mixed litter your cat accepts; avoid tofu and crystal litter.
- Confirm accessory fit for the M5 before buying liners or pads.
- Check the live price, warranty and return terms with the seller.
Who this box suits and who should look harder
The M5 is most likely to suit a single cat that is comfortably within the size range, whose owner has a 2.4 GHz network and is willing to clean the liner and wall areas regularly. Owners of larger cats, multi-cat homes, or households that depend on the app for monitoring should get written answers on fit, emptying frequency and sensor behavior before buying, because those are the areas where the evidence is thinnest.

If you are comparing the M5 with another automatic box, use the same criteria for both: access style, interior fit and entry height, supported litter types, waste-bin capacity, app and network requirements, sensor setup, cleaning effort, warranty and returns, and total cost including liners and litter. Those criteria do not show that one box is better; they show where each one’s trade-offs sit.
Use the specs as a starting point and treat claims about cleanliness, quiet operation and odor as things to confirm in your own home.
