The 59.0% figure is a minimum guaranteed-analysis value, not the proportion of calories supplied by protein. Dr. Elsey’s informational page says cleanprotein guaranteed analyses follow AAFCO guidelines and are not expressed as a percentage of calories. How wet-food labels differ
The manufacturer’s Homestyle Chicken pouch page lists chicken, chicken bone broth, and chicken liver among the ingredients. Its guaranteed analysis is 8% minimum crude protein, 5% minimum crude fat, 2% maximum crude fiber, and 82% maximum moisture. The page reports 112 kcal per 2.82-ounce pouch. These guaranteed-analysis percentages are not directly comparable with the kibble figures without accounting for moisture and the basis of comparison.

Calories per cup of kibble and per pouch or can of wet food describe different serving units. To plan a mixed diet, use the calorie content of the exact products and the amount actually fed; do not infer that the pouch is lower or higher in calories than kibble from those unlike units alone.

Is Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein complete and balanced?
