Matiss’s complaint was reported to allege that Junior attacked her and killed Queen Latifah’s dog; Millan denied the dog-death claim, and the available sources do not establish it as fact. A separate 2016 investigation into a dog biting a pig during a Cesar 911 episode was reported closed without charges.
These are distinct matters: a complaint records allegations, the pig investigation had a reported agency outcome, and professional criticism of training methods is not a legal finding. Here is what the available reporting and guidance establish—and what they do not.
The cases at a glance
| Matter | What was reported | Status established by the reviewed sources |
|---|---|---|
| Gus and Alison Bitney | Bitney alleged Gus attacked her in 2014 and sued Millan and related parties in 2015. The Dog Psychology Center’s director said Millan had never had contact with Gus. | The research did not verify a final judgment, settlement, or dismissal. The public disposition remains unestablished. |
| Junior and Lidia Matiss | Coverage of Matiss’s lawsuit described allegations that Junior attacked her. The lawsuit also reportedly alleged that Junior killed a dog belonging to Queen Latifah; Millan denied that claim. | The reviewed sources do not establish the allegations as court findings or provide a primary court disposition of Matiss’s personal-injury claims. |
| The 2016 pig incident | A Cesar 911 episode showed a dog biting a pig during a training session, prompting a county investigation. | Contemporary reporting said the case was declined and closed without charges. This outcome concerns the pig incident only. |
| Training-method criticism | AVSAB responded to the pig episode with professional guidance favoring reward-based training and warning against putting a target animal at risk. | This is professional guidance, not a legal decision about any lawsuit or incident. |
What was alleged about Junior and Lidia Matiss?
In 2021 coverage of Lidia Matiss’s lawsuit, the complaint was described as alleging that Millan’s dog Junior attacked Matiss and that Junior had killed a dog belonging to Queen Latifah. These are allegations attributed to the lawsuit, not findings established by the sources reviewed here.
Millan denied that his dog killed Queen Latifah’s dog. The available research found no independent confirmation from Queen Latifah and no court finding establishing the dog-death allegation. It also did not locate a primary court disposition establishing the final status of Matiss’s personal-injury claims. Do not describe the case as settled, dismissed, or decided without evidence establishing that outcome.

What happened in the Gus lawsuit?
TIME reported on February 5, 2015, that Alison Bitney sued Millan and related parties after alleging that Gus attacked her in September 2014. The same report quoted Dog Psychology Center director Jen Woodard as saying Millan had never had contact with Gus. It also reported that Gus was returned to the center and quarantined after the attack.
Those details are a reported allegation and a response, not judicial findings. The research did not verify a final judgment, settlement, or dismissal. The accurate description is that Bitney sued over an alleged attack and that the lawsuit’s final public disposition was not established by the sources reviewed here.

What did investigators conclude about the pig incident?
A February 2016 episode of Cesar 911 showed a dog named Simon, described in contemporary coverage as a French bulldog mix, biting a pot-bellied pig’s ear during a behavior session. Los Angeles County animal-control officials investigated.
CBS Los Angeles reported that county spokesman Aaron Reyes said investigators reviewed the full video, veterinary report, and interviews, and that the District Attorney’s office declined the case. The Los Angeles Times quoted Deputy District Attorney David Jacobs saying, “There is no evidence that the pig was used as bait, and all parties who witnessed the incident felt it was an accident.” The reporting said the investigation was closed without charges against Millan or his team.

What does AVSAB say about training?
The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) responded to the pig episode with professional guidance. It said current research supports changing a dog’s environment and using positive reinforcement as behavior-modification methods. AVSAB warned that trying to elicit a negative reaction toward another animal risks injuring that target animal.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to distinguish the claims and outcomes
- Complaint: A lawsuit describes a plaintiff’s allegations. The Bitney and Matiss accounts should be attributed to the complaint or reporting unless a court finding establishes them.
- Denial: Millan denied the allegation that his dog killed Queen Latifah’s dog. That denial, like the allegation, is not itself proof.
- Investigation: The pig incident was investigated, and contemporary coverage reported that the case was declined and closed without charges. This procedural outcome applies to that incident.
- Professional guidance: AVSAB’s training recommendations address behavior and animal welfare; they are not a court ruling.
