Feed each cat food and portions suited to its life stage, health, and body condition, then make it difficult for the wrong cat to reach that food. Start with separate feeding stations and supervised meals in separate rooms or locations; collect leftovers before the cats mingle. If that routine is not practical or food stealing continues, an identified microchip or RFID feeder can restrict access and dispense measured portions. Ask your veterinarian to set the diet and amount for each cat, especially for prescription food or weight loss.
1. Match each cat’s food to its needs
A kitten, an adult cat, and a pregnant or nursing cat may have different nutritional needs. Some commercial foods are formulated for all life stages, but that label does not establish that a food is right for every cat’s health or body condition. Ask your veterinarian which food and target weight are appropriate for each cat. Cornell’s cat-feeding guidance explains why diet choice should account for an individual cat’s needs.

2. Write down a separate feeding plan for every cat
Record the assigned food, measured daily amount, meal schedule, treats, toppers, and any food used to give medication. A written plan helps everyone in the household serve the right food and avoid accidental extra portions. The FDA’s overview of AAHA nutritional assessment guidelines describes assessment as more than choosing a food: it also considers feeding management, amount, frequency, treats, and how meals are served.

3. Give each cat its own feeding station
Use a separate bowl and station for every cat. Put stations far enough apart that each cat can eat without sharing access, and keep food away from litter boxes. The Feline Veterinary Medical Association’s 2024 handout puts it plainly: “Every cat within a household should have its own separate feeding stations.” Read the handout on feeding and behavioral needs.

- 【Smooth feeding, No food blockage】-Have you encountered any issues with the food cardholder not coming out while using the feeder? The detailed design and comprehensive functionality can free up your hands and time, allowing you to no longer worry about pet feeding.
- 【Custom voice recording】-You can record 10s voice to keep connected with your pets. Your voice will keep a close relationship with your pet and also let your pet eat with peace of mind.
- 【Fresh food prioritizes health】-The automatic cat feeder features a finger broadcasting lid opening device at the top to prevent your pet from stealing food. We have designed a desiccant placement box in our food dispenser, the design can completely isolate the air to prevent food from getting damp and moldy. We have included a desiccant to ensure the freshness of pet food.
- 【Ensure smooth feeding】- We have designed a food swinging device in the food dispenser to ensure that food can be smoothly placed into the feeding bowl from getting stuck. The feeding bowl of our automatic cat feeder is designed to tilt 8 degrees to ensure that your pet can eat in a comfortable position.
- 【Two power supply options available】- Use the 5V DC adapter while supplying the automatic cat food dispenser via 3 AA alkaline batteries(not included) installed in case of power outages, to ensure that your cat gets food consistently.
4. Reduce pressure and food guarding
Where possible, arrange stations so cats cannot watch or crowd one another while eating. Observe how each cat approaches its bowl and whether another cat guards or commandeers the food. Signs of tension can include vigilant scanning, cautious approaches, flattened or sideways ears, and a hunched posture. If you see these behaviors, try calmer locations with more visual and physical separation. The AAFP and ISFM Feline Environmental Needs Guidelines discuss the importance of providing cats with appropriately separated resources.
5. Serve supervised meals in separate places
For scheduled meals, feed cats in separate rooms or at separated locations where you can monitor them. Pick up uneaten food before letting the cats back together; otherwise, a cat that finishes first may eat another cat’s meal. A timed meal can help establish a routine. VCA describes 15–30 minutes as a typical meal window in its weight-management guidance, but that is an example rather than a required duration for every cat. See VCA’s guidance on creating a weight-reduction plan.

- 【Timed & Portion Control】 Program up to 6 meals a day with precise portion sizes to keep your pet healthy and prevent overeating.
6. Use an identified feeder if you cannot supervise
An automated feeder that recognizes a cat’s microchip or collar tag can limit access to the assigned food when you are not there to supervise. Choose a setup that dispenses measured portions and works with the food and meal schedule you use. AAHA recommends measured amounts from automated feeders, including devices that identify a pet by tag or microchip; the FelineVMA also describes programmable bowls using individual microchips. A feeder controls access—it does not decide which diet is medically suitable. AAHA’s obesity-prevention guidance covers feeding management and portion control.

Include treats, toppers, snacks, and food used for medication when tracking each cat’s intake. AAHA’s 2021 Nutrition and Weight Management Guidelines recommend keeping treats at or below 10% of daily calories. Ask your veterinarian what intake is appropriate for each cat and monitor weight over time. Do not improvise a calorie-restricted diet for an overweight cat; a veterinarian can set a safe plan based on that cat’s needs. - Precise Portion control:1 Portion ≈ 10 Grams ≈ 1/12 Cup. Allowed kibble size less than 0.5 inch. Up to 6 meals a day. The portion means the kibble amount of each bowl
8. Ask the veterinarian about prescription food or appetite changes
Before feeding a prescription diet, ask whether other cats in the home may eat it and how strictly access must be controlled. Do not assume that a food prescribed for one cat is suitable for another. If a cat refuses food and is losing weight, arrange a veterinary examination rather than relying on a feeder change or switching foods on your own. Cornell’s feeding guidance can help frame diet questions for your veterinarian.
