On June 8, 2024, fishing guide Jordan Chrestman and anglers Bob Gist and Brad Carlisle rescued 38 hounds from Grenada Lake in Mississippi. News reports and participant accounts say the dogs entered the lake while chasing a deer during a fox hunt; the group ferried them to shore in multiple trips, and they were returned to their owners.
An ordinary fishing trip becomes a rescue
Gist and Carlisle were fishing at Grenada Lake with local guide Chrestman when they noticed dogs in the water. The group used Chrestman’s boat to reach the hounds and bring them back to shore.
How the hounds ended up in the lake
Reports say the hounds were taking part in a nearby fox hunt and entered the lake while pursuing a deer. This sequence comes from news coverage and participant accounts, not a documented independent investigation.
The dogs were reported to be wearing electronic or radio tracking collars. Available reports do not identify a make or model.

The crew brought all 38 dogs to shore
Chrestman, Gist, and Carlisle ferried the hounds to shore in multiple trips because they could not bring them all back at once. Coverage reports that all 38 dogs were rescued and returned to their owners.
