In August 2018, Scroll reported that police had arrested two men in connection with an alleged assault on a pregnant goat in Maroda village, Haryana. Police said five of the eight accused men had not yet been identified. The report does not establish whether anyone was later convicted or what ultimately happened in the case.
What happened in Maroda village?
Scroll’s August 3, 2018 report said the alleged incident took place on July 25 in Maroda village, in Nuh district, Haryana, about 73 kilometres south of Gurugram. The goat, described as seven years old, died the following day. The report presented the incident as an allegation, not a finding reached by a court.
The goat’s owner, Aslup Khan, told the newspaper he identified two accused men as neighbours and sought Rs 1 lakh in compensation. Scroll did not report that compensation was awarded.
How many men were arrested or still unidentified?
According to Scroll, police had booked eight men in connection with the case. Two were arrested on August 2, 2018: Jaffar Khan, 22, and Saahukar Khan, 21, both described as residents of the village. At the time of publication, five of the eight accused were still unidentified, according to Nuh Superintendent of Police Nazneen Bhasin. The report does not explain the status of the remaining person.

Bhasin told Scroll: “Two of them have been arrested from Firozpur Zirka and will be produced before the civil court on Friday.” An arrest is not a conviction, and the report does not supply a later court outcome.
What charges did police report?
Scroll reported that police at Nagina police station booked the men under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code and the Animal Cruelty Act. Those are the charges as described in the 2018 article; that account does not establish the case’s final disposition or describe current Indian law.
