Mel was a one-year-old stray cat, not a dog. After being found with serious injuries and glaucoma that had left her blind in one eye, she received veterinary care and behavioural support from Battersea, then found a home with Cameron and Abi.
What happened to Mel?
A member of the public found Mel alone with friction marks across her back, fractured ribs and a serious limp. Battersea said her injuries were consistent with those of an animal who may have been hit by a vehicle, but it could not establish what had happened. The cause of her injuries therefore remains uncertain.

Mel also had glaucoma in her left eye and had already lost her sight in it. Battersea’s veterinary team provided intensive pain relief and decided to remove the eye to prevent further pain and discomfort and give her the best chance of a healthy life. How Battersea helped her recover
Veterinary treatment and laser therapy
After surgery, Battersea reported that Mel made steady progress and received a special course of laser therapy. The charity describes the therapy as using light energy to target cells, helping stimulate tissue repair and reduce pain and inflammation as injuries heal. Its account does not provide treatment measurements or an independent clinical evaluation.

Support as she adjusted to one eye
Battersea’s feline behaviour team helped Mel adapt to her changed vision. While she was in a cat pen, staff introduced new toys, and the charity said her mischievous personality began to flourish with attention and care. The account describes toys as part of Mel’s support, not as a recommendation for a particular product.
Mel’s new home with Cameron and Abi
Once she was ready for a home, Mel was adopted by Cameron and Abi. Cameron told Battersea that she plays in her favourite cardboard box, zooms around the house and curls up on their laps in the evening. His account offers a glimpse of a cat settling into ordinary home life after receiving help for serious injuries.
