There is no reliable single national average. The price depends on your location, the type of clinic, your cat’s age and vaccination history, which vaccines are recommended, and whether the quoted price includes an examination or other preventive services. The examples below are published prices from specific clinics and should be used for budgeting—not as a guarantee of what a clinic near you will charge.

What the main cat vaccines protect against

FVRCP

FVRCP is a combination vaccine for three important feline diseases:

  • Feline viral rhinotracheitis, usually associated with feline herpesvirus-1
  • Feline calicivirus
  • Feline panleukopenia

Because FVRCP combines protection into one injection, a clinic may list it as one vaccine even though it covers several diseases.

Rabies

Rabies is commonly treated as a core vaccine for cats. State, county, or city rules may require it, and the legal requirement can apply even when a cat lives indoors. The required age, product duration, documentation, and licensing fees vary by location.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

FeLV

FeLV means feline leukemia virus. Feline vaccination guidelines generally treat FeLV as a core vaccine for kittens and young cats, while the decision for many adult cats depends on risk. Outdoor access, contact with unfamiliar cats, living with a FeLV-positive cat, and other exposure circumstances can affect the recommendation.

Indoor status alone does not determine the entire vaccine plan. Your veterinarian should consider age, previous vaccines, health, household exposure, lifestyle, and local legal requirements.

Why kitten vaccines often cost $100–$230 or more

Kittens usually need an initial series rather than one appointment and one injection. FVRCP generally begins no earlier than six weeks of age and is repeated every three to four weeks until approximately 16–20 weeks, with the exact plan depending on the kitten, product labeling, and veterinarian’s assessment.

That can create several separate charges:

  1. Examinations: Some clinics require a physical examination at every visit, while some vaccination clinics charge separately or use a package.
  2. Multiple FVRCP doses: A kitten may need several doses before the initial series is complete.
  3. Rabies: This is given when the kitten reaches the appropriate age and may be required by local law.
  4. FeLV: Kittens and young cats are often evaluated for FeLV vaccination, which may involve more than one dose.
  5. Testing: A clinic may recommend FeLV/FIV testing or other tests based on the kitten’s history and risk.
  6. Fecal testing and deworming: These are common kitten-care expenses but are not vaccines.
  7. Microchipping: Some kitten packages include a microchip; others charge for it separately.

One published retail-clinic example lists kitten visits at $99, $109, and $119, and a three-visit bundle at $229. That bundle includes rabies, three FVRCP doses, two FeLV doses, deworming, testing, and a microchip. This explains why adding up individual vaccine prices may not match the total cost of a complete kitten package.

What published clinic prices look like

Retail vaccination clinics

A Vetco clinic page in Monterey, California lists feline rabies at $37, FVRCP at $50, FeLV at $50, and a four-way FVRCP-plus-FeLV vaccine at $75. The page notes that rabies-license fees and state or local taxes may be additional.

A Vetco clinic page in Las Vegas lists individual prices of $35 for rabies, $49 for FVRCP, and $50 for FeLV. Its kitten packages range from $99 to $119 per visit, while a three-visit package is listed at $229.

Nonprofit and low-cost clinics

SPCA of Texas lists cat rabies at $14, FVRCP at $16.50, and FeLV at $16.50. Its published wellness packages range from $67 for an adult yearly package to $130 for a youth package, $175 for an adult gold package, and $200 for a senior gold package. The organization also notes that a separate examination fee may be required for individual services.

Low-cost prices may be substantially below private-hospital prices, but they do not necessarily include the same services. Check whether the appointment includes an examination, records, testing, parasite care, or only the injection.

Private veterinary hospitals

A 2026 price list from Roxbury Animal Clinic shows feline rabies at $44 for a one-year product or $126 for a three-year product. Its FVRCP prices are $42 for one year or $48 for three years, with combination packages ranging from $101 to $121.

This example shows why a three-year vaccine does not always cost exactly three times a one-year vaccine—and why the product duration and package structure matter. A private hospital may also add a required examination, which can make the total higher than a vaccine-clinic quote.

How much do adult cat vaccines cost?

An adult cat with complete, reliable records may need only the vaccines currently due. In that situation, the vaccine portion of the visit may be relatively small at a low-cost or retail clinic.

An adult cat with missing records, an incomplete history, or a new adoption may need a catch-up plan. The veterinarian may recommend more than one dose, testing, or a different schedule. Revaccination intervals depend on factors such as vaccine type, route, age, exposure risk, and product labeling.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A full-service veterinary hospital may also require an examination before vaccination. That can be worthwhile because the veterinarian can assess whether the cat is healthy enough to vaccinate and address other preventive-care needs, but it means the total is not comparable with a vaccine-only price.

Be cautious with “free exam” promotions. For example, VCA’s published free-first-exam terms exclude vaccines and numerous other services. A free examination does not necessarily make the vaccination visit free.

Where to find lower-cost cat vaccines

  • SPCA and humane-society wellness clinics: These may offer reduced-price vaccines and packages.
  • Municipal or county rabies clinics: These can be especially useful when you need a legally required rabies vaccine.
  • Retail vaccination clinics: Clinics such as Vetco publish vaccine-only prices and kitten packages at some locations.
  • Veterinary-school or community-medicine clinics: Availability and eligibility vary.
  • Nonprofit mobile clinics: These may visit different communities on scheduled dates.
  • Multi-pet or kitten packages: A package can be less expensive than purchasing each service separately, but compare what is actually included.

Before traveling, confirm the clinic’s location, appointment rules, residency requirements, accepted payment methods, vaccine brands, and current prices. A low advertised price may apply only to a particular event or may exclude an examination, licensing fee, or tax.

Questions to ask before you book

Use this script when calling or checking out online:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • “What is the total price for the vaccine, examination, and every required fee?”
  • “Is that price for one dose or for my kitten’s full initial series?”
  • “Are rabies-license fees or taxes extra?”
  • “Do you require proof of prior vaccination before giving a three-year rabies vaccine?”
  • “Is FeLV recommended for my cat’s age and lifestyle?”
  • “Are deworming, fecal testing, FeLV/FIV testing, or microchipping included?”
  • “Will my cat need a booster appointment in three to four weeks?”
  • “What happens if my cat is ill or cannot safely be vaccinated at the appointment?”

The most important comparison is like for like: compare one clinic’s total cost for the same vaccines and services with another clinic’s total, rather than comparing a vaccine-only line item with a complete wellness package.

Keep your cat’s vaccination records

Save the clinic invoice and official vaccine certificate, including the date, vaccine name, product duration, and any legally required rabies information. Reliable records can prevent unnecessary uncertainty about whether a booster or catch-up dose is needed.

A cat vaccination record book can be a convenient organizational aid for recording appointment dates, vaccine names, and receipts. It does not replace the veterinary hospital’s official medical record, and it cannot determine which vaccines your cat needs. Keep it updated alongside the clinic’s records, particularly if you move, change veterinarians, board your cat, or travel.

Can a wellness plan or pet insurance lower vaccine costs?

Some veterinary wellness plans may bundle examinations, vaccines, blood work, fecal testing, or other routine services into predictable payments. Pet insurance is a separate category and is often designed primarily for unexpected illness or injury. Routine vaccine coverage, waiting periods, reimbursement limits, and exclusions are plan-specific.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not assume that a plan covers vaccines simply because it is marketed for preventive care. Compare the annual cost with the services your cat is likely to use, and confirm the exact preventive-care benefits in writing.

Budget roughly $35–$75 per vaccine at a retail vaccination clinic, or around $14–$17 per vaccine at some nonprofit clinics. For a kitten, plan on approximately $100–$230 or more for the initial series, with private veterinary hospitals potentially costing more after examinations and additional preventive care. Do indoor cats need vaccines?

Not necessarily. Indoor cats can still be exposed through household contact, escapes, veterinary visits, or other circumstances. The plan depends on age, health, vaccination history, lifestyle, household exposure, and local rabies requirements.

How can I avoid unexpected cat vaccination costs?

Ask whether the quote includes the examination, every required vaccine dose, rabies-license fees, taxes, testing, deworming, microchipping, and future booster visits. Also ask whether the price covers one dose or the full kitten series.

The Bottom Line

Most adult cat vaccine visits cost less than a kitten’s initial series. In the U.S., vaccine-only prices commonly fall around $35–$75 at retail clinics and $14–$17 at some nonprofit clinics, while a kitten series may total $100–$230 or more. Confirm examination fees, rabies fees, taxes, testing, deworming, microchipping, and booster visits before comparing quotes.
