Siamese cats do not have an established breed-specific nutrient requirement. Choose a complete-and-balanced cat food appropriate for your cat’s life stage and health, then adjust portions to its activity and body condition. Royal Canin Siamese Adult is one documented option for adult Siamese cats, but the available evidence does not establish that it is better than other suitable foods.
What makes a cat food suitable for a Siamese?
Start with your cat’s species, life stage, and condition—not the breed name on the bag. The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) explains that “complete” means a food contains all required nutrients, while “balanced” means those nutrients are present in the appropriate ratios. Kittens and adult cats have different needs, so check which life stage the food is intended for.

Look for the nutritional adequacy statement on the package. AAFCO calls it the key to determining whether a food is intended to meet nutritional needs for a stated life stage. AAFCO does not approve individual brands or maintain an approved-product list, so verify the statement on the current package rather than relying on a product’s name or marketing. Is breed-specific food necessary?
The reviewed veterinary and standards guidance does not establish that Siamese cats require a unique nutrient profile, particular protein level, or special nutrient ratio because of their breed. Breed-specific labeling may describe a product’s design, but it is not proof that the cat needs that formula.
A documented adult option
Royal Canin Siamese Adult dry food is described in the manufacturer’s February 2025 product guide as intended for Siamese cats over 12 months. The guide says its tube-shaped kibble is designed to be easier for a Siamese muzzle to grasp and that the formula is designed to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles for maintenance. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent comparative-trial findings. Check the current package for its adequacy statement and feeding directions before buying. This is one option for an adult cat, not a universal best choice. A suitable alternative may be any food with an adequacy statement that fits the cat’s life stage and condition and that works for its health needs, calorie intake, and preferences.

- Life stage and condition: Choose food for kitten growth or adult maintenance, unless a veterinarian recommends a therapeutic diet for a health problem.
- Adequacy statement: Read the statement on the current package and confirm that it matches the cat’s life stage.
- Individual fit: Consider calorie intake, activity, body condition, health needs, and whether your cat will eat the food.
- Manufacturer information: If you need to assess a company’s nutrition expertise or quality controls, use WSAVA’s broader selection guidance rather than judging by ingredient-list order alone.
- Practicality: Price and availability can matter when choosing a food you can feed consistently.
The available guidance does not establish that wet or dry food is generally superior for Siamese cats. Choose a format in light of your individual cat’s needs; ask your veterinarian if food format is part of a health plan.

How much should a Siamese cat eat?
There is no single portion that fits every Siamese. Use the package’s feeding directions as a starting point, then monitor weight and body condition. Portions may need adjustment if your cat gains or loses weight. PetMD’s Siamese cat health and care guide advises taking age, lifestyle, and ideal body condition into account; your veterinarian can help set an individual calorie target.

Get veterinary guidance if your cat has a health problem that may call for a therapeutic diet, or if you are considering home-formulating its food. Merck Veterinary Manual notes that some diets, including those for conditions such as obesity or kidney disease, may require a veterinary prescription, and recommends veterinary input—ideally from a veterinary nutritionist—before formulating a home diet.

Merck also advises against feeding raw meat to cats, giving supplements without veterinary approval, or using dog food as a regular cat diet. These are general feline nutrition cautions, not Siamese-specific needs. See Merck Veterinary Manual’s guidance on proper cat nutrition.
