Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore you bring your dog to a ski lift or gondola, confirm that the resort allows dogs on that specific lift, on your travel date and in your direction of travel. Rules vary by resort, season, lift type, and whether the dog is a pet or a service dog. If dogs are permitted, use the required leash, muzzle, or closed carrier, and help your dog get comfortable with it well before the trip.
Check the resort’s rules for your exact trip
Ask about the specific lift, operating season, uphill or downhill travel, and whether the rule applies to pets, service dogs, or both. Also confirm any ticket, leash-length, muzzle, carrier, crowding, or safety conditions. If the published policy is unclear, contact guest services rather than assuming that permission for one lift or season applies to another.
For example, Whistler Blackcomb’s policy, updated June 5, 2026, permits guide and service dogs in gondolas, buildings, and restaurants when they are harnessed or leashed and under control, but bars them from chairlifts. This is a service-dog policy, not general permission for pets. Whistler Blackcomb’s accessibility information describes the policy.
Other resort policies show why checking matters:
| Resort or destination | What its stated policy says |
|---|---|
| Vail Mountain | Pets are not allowed on chairlifts. The resort recommends gondola access for service-animal teams where possible, describing gondolas as generally safer access than chairlifts. Vail Mountain accessibility information |
| Ischgl | Dogs may use specified gondolas and chairlifts with a muzzle and lead; details can vary among operators and lifts. Ischgl dog guidance |
| Tremblant | Dogs are allowed on the Panoramic and Casino Express gondolas in summer and fall only; dogs are not accepted on the mountain during ski season. Leashes may be no longer than 3 metres. Tremblant’s pet policy |
| Vialattea | Permitted lifts require a lead no longer than 1.5 metres and a muzzle, or a suitable closed carrier. Dogs on chairlifts and the aerial cableway may travel only in a closed carrier. Staff may refuse transport if conditions are overcrowded or unsafe. Vialattea’s FAQ |
| Sea to Sky Gondola | Pets may not ride up. Dogs that hike up may use the operator’s ride-down-only ticket or pass; leash rules apply around the base and gondola. Sea to Sky Gondola’s FAQ |
| Northstar | Dogs are prohibited on lifts, gondolas, mid-mountain, and ski trails in winter. Leashed dogs may ride gondola cabins during summer operations. Northstar’s policies |
These examples illustrate variation; they are not a complete list or a substitute for checking the current policy at your chosen resort.

Use equipment the operator accepts
Bring the restraint the resort requires: a leash, muzzle, closed carrier, or a combination. A harness may help you manage your dog, but it does not automatically satisfy a muzzle or carrier rule. Check any leash-length limit and make sure the equipment fits properly. Do not rely on a harness alone unless the operator confirms that it is accepted for that lift.
Introduce the accepted restraint or carrier at home in short, calm sessions. Let your dog investigate it, then practise wearing or entering it without rushing. Reward relaxed behaviour and stop or slow down if your dog becomes distressed. Veterinary transport guidance recommends acclimating pets to a harness or carrier and reducing unfamiliar stressors, but it does not establish a gondola-specific training schedule. See the FDA’s guidance on traveling with pets.

Consider your dog’s health and comfort
A lift ride can combine motion, vibration, unfamiliar sights and sounds, other animals, and confinement. Consider whether your dog can stay controlled in a queue and cabin and cope with those conditions. If your dog is ill, injured, medically compromised, or likely to become very distressed, ask a veterinarian whether the outing is appropriate.
Do not give calming or anti-nausea medication without veterinary direction. The FDA notes that sedatives can dull a pet’s senses and reduce its ability to respond in an emergency. Discuss your dog’s specific health and travel concerns with your veterinarian rather than improvising with medication.

Plan for cold from the queue through the return
Your dog may be exposed to cold while approaching the lift, waiting in line, reaching the summit, and unloading. A dog not accustomed to cold may be less prepared for it. Check the day’s conditions and plan conservatively, especially if your dog has health factors that affect temperature regulation.
Watch for shivering, whining, a tucked tail or hunched posture, lifted paws, reluctance to walk, or sudden anxiety. If you notice these signs, move your dog to a warm, dry place. Prolonged cold exposure can cause frostbite or hypothermia. The American Veterinary Medical Association’s cold-weather safety guidance explains cold-related risks and signs to watch for.

Use a pre-trip checklist
- Confirm access: Ask whether dogs can use the exact lift on your date and in your intended direction, and whether the rule covers your dog’s category.
- Clarify conditions: Check the required leash, muzzle, carrier, ticket, and any crowd or staff-discretion restrictions. Ask what happens if service stops or an evacuation is needed, and follow staff instructions.
- Prepare accepted equipment: Fit and practise with the required restraint or carrier before the visit. Do not assume that one piece of equipment replaces another.
- Assess your dog: Consider health, cold tolerance, comfort with confinement and nearby people or animals, and the ability to remain controlled in a queue and cabin. Ask a veterinarian if you are unsure the outing is appropriate.
- Plan for conditions: Check the weather and be ready to end the outing or move your dog to warmth if it shows signs of cold stress or distress.
