Qué se sabe del accidente
El Comercio informó que el choque ocurrió el lunes 23 de mayo de 2022 en Redwood Highway, en el condado de Josephine, y describió un impacto entre el Volkswagen de Koz y una camioneta que circulaba en sentido contrario. UOL situó la colisión en la US 199, cerca de Selma, y dijo que el otro vehículo era un Ford Escape. UOL reportó que Koz murió en el lugar y que la policía no había informado entonces sobre el estado de Shurastey. El mismo medio atribuyó a una tía de Koz, que administraba una cuenta relacionada con el perro, la confirmación de que Shurastey también había muerto. Por tanto, la muerte del perro fue confirmada por la familia según esa cobertura, no por un comunicado policial citado allí. UOL.

Quiénes eran Jesse Koz y Shurastey
Jesse Kozechen, conocido como Jesse Koz, era un viajero brasileño que documentaba sus recorridos. En abril de 2017 emprendió un viaje por América con Shurastey, su golden retriever, a bordo de un Volkswagen Fusca —conocido en español como Escarabajo— de 1978. Su objetivo era llegar a Alaska. En una entrevista de 2020 reproducida por UOL, Koz explicó que Shurastey le daba apoyo emocional durante el viaje y ayudaba a que otras personas se acercaran a conversar. Dijo: “Acho que se estivesse sozinho, sem o Shurastey, já teria parado, porque a parte emocional pega muito. Você não tem contato com outras pessoas, não conversa com ninguém e ele me dá esse suporte emocional. Fora que me abre portas: quebra o gelo e o medo das pessoas virem conversar, trocar uma ideia e perguntar sobre a viagem.” La declaración expresa cómo Koz vivía la compañía de su perro en ruta; no es una descripción del accidente.
