Its FAQ calls pets non-targets; its terms also warn users not to expose people, pets, eyes, or reflective surfaces to laser components. Follow the exact unit’s current manual and labels, and do not rely on the manufacturer’s safety claim alone.
The product page identifies an internal IEC 60825-1 Class 4 diode. That is a description of the internal laser source, not proof of the complete device’s accessible-emission safety or completed certification. The Register reported on August 17, 2026, that the company said required safety and quality certifications were still in progress.
What is Photon Matrix?
Photon Matrix is a mosquito-defense device marketed by its manufacturer as combining LiDAR scanning, millimeter-wave radar, auxiliary visual sensing, and galvanometer-controlled optics to guide a laser response. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independently verified performance results.
The manufacturer says the device is intended for mosquito defense. Its terms say it does not guarantee complete mosquito elimination or prevention of mosquito-borne disease. It should not be described as a pesticide, medical device, or public-health treatment.

How much area does one unit cover?
The official FAQ claims the Pro version has an effective range of up to 6 meters and scans a 90-degree sector. The FAQ also says a single unit does not provide full 360-degree coverage. These are manufacturer specifications; independent measurement was not established by the sources reviewed.
| Claim | What the manufacturer says | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|
| Range | Up to 6 meters | Manufacturer claim; not independently validated in the sources reviewed. |
| Coverage | A 90-degree sector; not full 360-degree coverage from one unit | Manufacturer claim; not independently validated in the sources reviewed. |
| Pet detection | Pets are treated as non-targets | Manufacturer assurance; no independent pet-safety validation identified. |
The manufacturer says performance can vary with mosquito density, lighting, placement, background, and other environmental conditions. Do not interpret the stated range as guaranteed protection of an entire room or yard.
Is Photon Matrix safe for pets?
The official FAQ says the device is safe around cats and dogs because pets are larger than mosquitoes and are treated as non-targets. That is the manufacturer’s claim, not independent evidence that the device is safe for every pet, placement, or operating condition.
The product page identifies an internal IEC 60825-1 Class 4 diode and describes a multi-layer active-safety enclosure. The terms instruct users not to intentionally point, direct, or expose laser components toward people, pets, eyes, or reflective surfaces, and to follow the manual and product labels. Keep the laser classification, the manufacturer’s enclosure description, and the product’s certification status distinct: none alone establishes independent safety validation of the complete consumer device.
The Register reported on August 17, 2026, that Photon Matrix said mandatory safety and quality certifications were still in progress. This is dated reporting on the company’s status at that time, not proof of its status today. Check for a newer certification record for the exact model before buying.

Practical precautions for pet owners
- Read and follow the exact unit’s current manual, warning labels, and applicable local requirements.
- Place the unit where pets cannot knock it over or chew its cable, as the official FAQ advises.
- Do not direct or expose laser components toward pets, people, eyes, or reflective surfaces.
- Do not assume that a pet will always be detected or that the device’s safety claim applies to every animal or home setup.
A PetSafe safety document for a different product warns: “Do not aim the laser beam directly into the eyes of a pet.” This is a general caution from another product maker, not an assessment of Photon Matrix.
What is independently established?
The sources reviewed for this article do not provide an independent product test or a named, independently published statistic establishing Photon Matrix’s mosquito-killing performance or safety around pets. The range, scanning sector, sensor behavior, and pet non-target claim should therefore be attributed to the manufacturer rather than presented as verified results.
The manufacturer also says performance may vary with environmental conditions. A reader should not infer a reliable kill rate, complete mosquito elimination, or disease prevention from the product description.
What should buyers verify?
Before purchasing, check the documentation for the exact model and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. In particular, look for current certification records and product labels, and confirm the seller’s warranty and return terms. Do not describe the product as fully certified unless current documentation for that model supports the claim.
The product terms warn against exposing pets, people, eyes, or reflective surfaces to laser components. They also require use according to the manual and product labels. The manufacturer’s FAQ advises placing the unit where pets cannot knock it over or chew its cable.

Alternatives and mosquito prevention
Photon Matrix is marketed as an automated device that attempts to target flying mosquitoes. Conventional approaches, such as repellents, protective screens, and traps, work differently. The sources reviewed here do not establish a comparative safety or effectiveness ranking, so choose an approach based on its instructions, the household’s needs, and applicable public-health guidance.
Do not rely on Photon Matrix as protection against mosquito-borne disease. The manufacturer says it does not guarantee disease prevention. Follow guidance from relevant public-health authorities for bite prevention and mosquito control.

FAQ
Is Photon Matrix safe for pets?
The manufacturer says pets are non-targets, but independent validation of the device’s safety around pets was not identified in the sources reviewed. Follow the unit’s current manual and labels, and place it where pets cannot knock it over or chew its cable.
Is it safe around cats, dogs, and other pets?
The official FAQ specifically gives an assurance about cats and dogs. That assurance is not independent testing and should not be generalized to every animal or situation. The product terms warn against exposing pets to laser components.
What does the Class 4 diode specification mean?
The product page identifies an internal IEC 60825-1 Class 4 diode. That describes the internal source; it does not by itself establish the accessible-emission safety or certification of the complete device.

The Bottom Line
Photon Matrix’s pet-safety assurance is a manufacturer claim, not independent validation. The product page identifies an internal Class 4 diode, the terms warn against exposing pets to laser components, and The Register reported in August 2026 that required certifications were still in progress.
