From Litter-Robot 4 to 5
Whisker says the 5’s WasteID distinguishes urine from feces. It also lists a larger waste drawer, an upgraded LCD display, an integrated carpet tray, and a stated range of up to five cats and 3–30 lb, compared with up to four cats and 3–25 lb for the 4. The 4 requires a Carpet Tray add-on for carpet or uneven flooring when weight-reading accuracy matters; check placement guidance for your setup.

The main stated step-up is the Pro’s built-in dual cameras. Whisker’s product page says the app includes basic real-time streaming limited to five minutes daily and recorded events at no charge; it associates visual cat identification with Whisker+. Choose Litter-Robot 5 if
- You want the stated five-cat or 3–30 lb range, WasteID, and the larger drawer.
- You value an integrated carpet tray but do not need built-in cameras.

Choose Litter-Robot 5 Pro if

Drawer-emptying estimates and evidence limits
Whisker estimates that the Litter-Robot 4 drawer may need emptying about every eight days in a one-cat household, compared with about every ten days for the 5 and 5 Pro. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed intervals; household size, cat habits, and litter can affect how often you need to empty it. Whisker’s pages do not provide independent verification of those intervals, waste capacity, or odor-control advantages.
Whisker also reports more than 10,000 five-star reviews for the Litter-Robot 4 since its 2022 debut in its September 22, 2026 article. That is a manufacturer-reported review count, not an independent measure of review quality or a comparison with the newer models. The sources for this comparison are manufacturer pages rather than independent head-to-head tests, so advertised differences should be read as Whisker’s specifications and claims.

Whisker’s own framing is that the best model depends on household cat count, price, and desired monitoring capabilities. Those are the decisive trade-offs here too.
