Casey Colvin’s dog Oreo was found alive on January 12, 2025, five days after the Palisades Fire began and the house burned. A group of rescuers searched for Oreo, then brought Colvin and his other dog, Teeka, to the area; Colvin called Oreo and squeezed his favorite squeaky toy until Oreo came through a gate and returned to his arms.
Colvin was away at work when the fire spread, and evacuation restrictions prevented him from reaching the dogs. A firefighter rescued Teeka, but Oreo fled when the firefighter tried to catch him. The reunion depended on a wider search and on Oreo’s familiarity with Colvin and Teeka.
What happened to Casey Colvin’s dogs?
Colvin lived in Pacific Palisades with Oreo, a white Pomeranian, and Teeka, his older black rat terrier. He was at work when the Palisades Fire began on January 7, 2025. Authorities would not allow him to enter the area, so he sought help reaching the dogs.
As The Washington Post reported, CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Brent Pascua went to Colvin’s house and managed to bring Teeka out. When Pascua tried to catch Oreo, Oreo ran away into the fire area. Pascua later said, “I wasn’t really expecting that dog to survive.”
