Willis, who worked at a veterinary hospital, arranged care for the dog, later known as Mama Jade. Willis’s account of the dog’s damaged teeth became part of a story that drew widespread public support.
How Mama Jade came to Christianna Willis
ABC News reported on October 5, 2013, that the dog arrived at Willis’s Nashville home as a stray. Willis worked at a veterinary hospital and arranged for the dog to receive care there. The account describes wounds and other signs of mistreatment as observations relayed by Willis; they are not a legal finding about who harmed the dog or how.
Willis also described the dog’s teeth in an account later published by IHeartDogs. The site attributed this quotation to her: “I saw her teeth and saw that her teeth had been pulled out and filed down, and I just started crying,” said Christianna Willis. “I immediately started bawling.” IHeartDogs credited Newsbreaker via YouTube; the quotation is presented here as that article’s attribution to Willis.
How the rescue story drew help
Willis posted about the dog on Craigslist, and the post brought attention and offers of support, ABC News reported. That response helped turn a stray dog’s arrival into a public rescue story. The attention figures in the two articles refer to different snapshots, not a single measure of rescue impact:
