IHeartDogs reported that a villager in North Africa heard a puppy crying beside a road at night, took the small dog home, and watched as his own dog and cat approached and comforted it. The story was published in 2022 and credits a YouTube video by “kitten&puppy are a life.” The account does not establish what caused the puppy’s distress or what happened to it afterward.
What happened in the rescue story?
In its May 10, 2022 account, IHeartDogs described a villager in North Africa hearing cries from beside a road at night. He found a tiny puppy and brought it home. The article says his orange cat and black dog came over to the puppy, which eventually fell asleep with them.
IHeartDogs credits the video story to “kitten&puppy are a life” on YouTube. An earlier IHeartDogs version, published February 4, 2022, also describes a whimpering puppy that appeared hurt and credits the same video source: the earlier account.
What is—and is not—known about the puppy?
The available account is a publisher’s retelling, not an independently verified rescue record. It does not identify the rescuer or a precise location, provide a veterinary diagnosis, or establish the puppy’s later condition. The description of the puppy as being in pain reflects the story’s framing; it is not a confirmed diagnosis. The account also does not establish that the puppy was abandoned, where it came from, or whether it was treated or adopted.

What to do if you find a puppy that seems injured
Prioritize urgent veterinary help when there are serious warning signs
The ASPCA lists pale gums, rapid breathing, difficulty standing, loss of consciousness, seizures, and excessive bleeding among signs that can indicate an emergency. Severe trauma may need emergency care. If it is safe to approach and transport the animal, contact an emergency veterinary facility and follow its instructions. An injured animal may react defensively, so approach slowly and calmly and protect yourself.
See the ASPCA’s emergency-care guidance for more information. An online rescue story cannot determine what care a particular animal needs.

Contact a local shelter about a found stray
If the animal is not showing signs of an emergency, contact your local shelter for advice on what to do next. Stray-animal procedures differ by location, so a local shelter or animal-control service is the right place to ask about the applicable steps. The ASPCA provides general guidance for people who find a stray animal.
Keep first aid in its proper role
The American Veterinary Medical Association’s Pet First Aid brochure (2023) puts the limit plainly: “First aid care is not a substitute for veterinary care, but it may save your pet’s life until you can get them veterinary care.” Its checklist can help owners prepare a pet first-aid kit, but it is not a reason to delay professional assessment for a puppy that may be seriously hurt. Read the AVMA brochure.
