Boy, the black-and-white cat known online as Zorro, has a kitten with a strikingly similar face marking. Cats.com reports that the kitten, nicknamed Zorro Jr., is officially named Bandit. Their resemblance is irresistible—but it does not reveal exactly how either cat inherited his pattern.
Who is the cat known as Zorro?
Cats.com identifies the adult cat as Boy, whose online nickname, Zorro, comes from the dark marking across his face. The outlet reports that he became popular on TikTok and Instagram and attends meet-and-greets. Those details are reported by Cats.com; independent owner records or primary social-media posts were not established in the sources available for this story.
Who is his kitten, and why did people call him Zorro Jr.?
Cats.com says Boy fathered a litter with another black-and-white cat. One kitten had a face marking similar to Boy’s, prompting people to call him Zorro Jr. His official name is Bandit. The article also describes Boy spending time with the kittens and their mother.
Can kittens inherit unusual coat markings from a parent?
Yes, coat appearance has genetic foundations, and white spotting is among the traits that can affect a cat’s pattern. The University of California, Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory describes dominant white and white spotting mutations and explains that the relevant white spotting pattern can be inherited dominantly: UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory.

That general information does not establish Boy’s or Bandit’s genotype. A similar-looking marking in a parent and kitten is not enough to identify the precise genetic variant involved or prove that a particular allele caused the resemblance. The genetics references do not verify the specific inheritance explanation offered for these two cats.
Why do some cat coat patterns have different inheritance explanations?
Coat patterns are not all governed by the same genes. For example, the Merck Veterinary Manual explains that calico and tortoiseshell colors involve X-linked orange and black coat-color genes, while the white in calicos comes from a different gene: Merck Veterinary Manual. That is useful context for those patterns, but it does not explain Boy and Bandit’s black-and-white facial markings.
