Cats.com’s review of NutriSource Pure Vita, updated February 16, 2026, gives the brand 6.8/10 overall (a B-)—a mixed verdict rather than a blanket endorsement. It views the reviewed wet recipes favorably for simple, meat-based ingredients, while criticizing the dry-food examples for their pea-derived ingredients and carbohydrate levels. Those are the reviewer’s assessments of particular recipes, not clinical findings or conclusions about every Pure Vita product.
Is Pure Vita a wholesome choice for your cat?
That depends in part on which recipe you are considering. Cats.com’s review describes a lineup of three grain-free dry foods, five canned recipes, and six freeze-dried treats; those counts reflect the lineup reported on the page and can change. Its featured examples show why the format and ingredient list matter: the Chicken & Peas and Salmon & Peas dry foods include several pea-derived ingredients, while the 96% Real Turkey Entrée canned food starts with turkey, turkey broth, and turkey liver.
The page’s overall 6.8/10 score combines six editorial categories. The ratings below explain what the score represents; they are Cats.com’s judgments, not a standardized nutrition certification.

How do the reviewed recipes compare?
The figures below are those reported on the Cats.com page for the specific recipes it analyzed. Guaranteed-analysis percentages are not directly comparable across dry and canned foods because their moisture content differs. The page also cautions that its nutrient charts are automatically calculated from guaranteed analysis and may not represent typical nutrient values, so chart figures may differ from the accompanying text.
| Recipe and format | Ingredients highlighted by Cats.com | Reported guaranteed analysis | Calories reported | Reviewer’s assessment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken & Peas Entrée, dry | First ingredients: chicken, chicken meal, peas, and pea flour. The list also includes chicken fat, dried egg product, pea protein, pea starch, and pea fiber. | Crude protein 32.92%; crude fat 18.5%; crude fiber 3.43%; moisture 9.5%. | Not stated on the review page for this recipe. | Cats.com characterizes it as moderate in protein and fat but high in carbohydrates. |
| Salmon & Peas Entrée, dry | Salmon and salmon meal lead the list, followed by pea starch, sunflower oil, peas, pea protein, and pea flour. | Crude protein 31%; crude fat 18%; crude fiber 7%; moisture 10%. | 407 calories per cup. | Cats.com describes it as a fish-protein option but criticizes the pea-derived ingredients and carbohydrate level. |
| 96% Real Turkey Entrée, canned | Turkey, turkey broth, and turkey liver lead the list. | Crude protein 11.25%; crude fat 9.61%; crude fiber 0.07%; moisture 76%. | 192 calories per can; the page also reports 35 calories per ounce. | Cats.com views this recipe more favorably, describing it as high in protein and low in carbohydrates. |
These numbers describe the named recipes as presented in the review; they should not be generalized to all Pure Vita foods. In particular, a high protein percentage on a canned food label cannot be compared at face value with a dry-food percentage without accounting for the foods’ very different moisture levels.

What does the ingredient list suggest?
Dry recipes: animal proteins alongside multiple pea ingredients
The two dry examples both name animal proteins prominently, but also list several forms of peas or pea-derived ingredients. Cats.com points to those ingredients in its criticism of the recipes’ carbohydrate levels. That is the reviewer’s interpretation of these formulas; the ingredient lists alone do not establish how an individual cat will respond or whether a food is appropriate for a particular medical need.
Canned turkey: a simpler meat-forward example
In the reviewed 96% Real Turkey Entrée, turkey, broth, and liver appear first. Cats.com considers this canned recipe more favorable for its meat-based ingredients and low carbohydrate level. The assessment is specific to that recipe and does not mean that every wet food in the range has the same composition.

What is known about Pure Vita’s recall history?
Tuffy’s Pet Foods’ official notice dated October 11, 2021, announced a voluntary recall of approximately 1,600 cases of Pure Vita Salmon Entrée dog food in TetraPak cartons because of potentially elevated vitamin D. The notice limited the recall to specified lots and best-by dates; it said no consumer reports of illness or injury had been received at the time and that no other Pure Vita dog or cat foods or treats were affected. This was not a cat-food recall, and it does not establish the current safety of products or lots outside the notice.
The review says cat food had not been recalled, while the official notice documents the limited dog-food recall. Read the 2021 Tuffy’s Pet Foods recall notice for the affected product details rather than treating the brand’s entire range as covered.

Why do reviews reach different verdicts?
A separate Catster review, dated September 15, 2026, reports a 4.6/5 verdict. That differs from Cats.com’s 6.8/10, but the scores use different publishers’ methods and are not directly comparable without matching criteria. Catster’s ingredient concerns, like Cats.com’s recipe assessments, should be understood as reviewer opinions rather than settled clinical conclusions.
For a practical comparison, consider the exact format and recipe, the named animal protein and other ingredients, the guaranteed analysis and calorie information, and the reviewer’s stated criteria. Cats.com’s displayed prices are time-sensitive, so its price rating should not be treated as a current quote or daily feeding-cost estimate.

Where can you buy Pure Vita?
Cats.com identifies Amazon and several other large online retailers as purchase channels, and separately names PetFlow, Anglers Outfitters, and Naturally Unleashed as authorized online retailers. That information does not establish current inventory, a live product listing, present price, or product authenticity.
