A parrot appeared on a BR-116 traffic-monitoring camera in Curitiba, Brazil, on the morning of October 29, 2021. Arteris Planalto Sul, the road concessionaire, identified it as Amazona aestiva—a species also known in English as the Turquoise-fronted Amazon or Turquoise-fronted Parrot.
What kind of parrot appeared on the camera?
Arteris Planalto Sul identified the bird as Amazona aestiva, according to Brazilian news reports. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lists “Turquoise-fronted Amazon” and “Turquoise-fronted Parrot” as English common names for that species. These are common names for the same species, not separate kinds of parrot.
The common-name mapping identifies the species name; it does not independently confirm the identity of the individual bird shown on the camera.
Where and when was the parrot seen?
The sighting was reported on the morning of October 29, 2021, on a monitoring camera along BR-116 in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. A post attributed to the concessionaire and reproduced by Rádio Jornal places the camera at kilometer 115 of BR-116/PR.
